Just thought I would say hi

Post by motivated »

I just purchased a Rangie a few weeks ago for work (I'm a bricklayer), and also so I could get out and spend some time with my family playing in the mud down at the waimak.

My ultimate goal at this stage is to build up a couple of Rangies with one being along the lines of the bodge ( I love it ) with the other being a semi-bodge, why a couple of rangies you ask, well my lady wont allow me to play in the mud by myself and nor will she accept sitting in the passenger seat. I'm thinking that I will build one to be a pure river rat, no reg etc.

If anyone can suggest the best club in ChCh for a rangie owner I would appreciate it.

I'll be asking a lot of questions so I hope you guys can put up with me.

Hey Kelvyn, welcome to the group... you're in the right place both physically and electronically... theres a lot of skill and experience on here and plenty of places to play locally.

Good to hear you have such a supportive other half too :)

I'd suggest the Canterbury Land Rover Owners Club (http://www.clroc.net.nz) as a good place to start, but have found the odd club I have had anything to do with to be too constrictive and too political for my liking... and I know there are plenty of other people with similar ideas. Everyone is different tho, so see how you get on.

regards

I'm not a big fan of clubs, but if not a club where would I find the bits etc. I know range rover is "RR", but in my case its not short for "Rolls Royce".

Just starting at the beginning I'm thinking I need different tyres and better suspension. My first play at the mak was in a hole about 12-18'' deep and I only got half way in there and I was stuck with drivers front wheel spinning and passengers rear wheel spinning. My lady enjoyed driving, but it almost killed me pulling it out with a block and tackle. I used to take my old cf bedford down to the river with a trailor and snowchains and it did better than the RR, and I had the pleasure of recovering a lot of 4x4's with it. At this rate I might need to consider buying a pipe, nice jacket and a farm so at least I look the part, cos this thing aint going bush at this rate.

I knew I should of purchased the one in wellington that already had SAT's, a body lift and wielded diff

Best I get some brickwork to fund fixing this thing the way I want it.

Did I say my lady was supportive, na! she just aint keen to miss out, but she does like driving rangies.

Gidday Kelvyn,
welcome. I am a member of the CLROC and they won't let you join with an unregestered vehicle or no WOF: rules. You are right about clubs, every club I have ever been involved in has its clicks. You just have to find the right group amongst the idiots. I do get good discounts, cheap oils etc and rope. They do have other stuff to lend for tuning , replacing engines etc. That's one of the main reasons I joined plus access. Dropping in that you are a member does open up gates that are otherwise closed. Contact me via email and I can give you some more details on the meeting times and membership officer.

I believe you wrote to CLUG (Linux group) of which I am a member, something about a perl script or something. Anyway, I was curious about what your site was about and followed the link that you put in the thread, and here I am, :)

And this is one hell of a good forum you run.
