there are rebuild kits for these, they were still made for forklifts until last year, try Steve from 4wd stuff an advertiser here(
steve@4wdstuff.co.nz ) for the kit he should be able to find one or any local carb place in wellington.
what makes you suspect the carb? they are pretty simple a good clean and a couple of new gaskets usualy has them right.

the man that was working on the ute said its the accelertor cable where it goes in by butterfly on the carb that it is worn and the spring is pulling one way and air is going in there and that is making it run like sh*t. It sometimes back fires and i wont idle and sometines it will ilde but when you put your foot down it has a dead spot 1000 to about 1800 i have the filters so would like to get sorted by rallywoods on the 26th or 19th

so if that help you work out my problem thats great

that doesn't sound like just carb issues. The backfire means too much fuel, poor spark or bad timing.
The dead spot seems again to be timing or vaccum advance, could even be fuel filter or fuel pickup blocking and clearing.
I would look at and clean the points and plugs and distributor cap to see if you are getting a good spark, I had a few issues with the vaccum advance on my timing not working and had to clean it up.
There are two adjustment screws on them on the engine side of the carb, this is the black magic bit to get the fueling right and this most wont be able to do themselves leave them where they are you need an exhaust probe to set it up properley.
The carb itself is pretty simple on a Hilux. Good Luck
