Himuzulux in 4x4 Action Mag

Well, some of you may have noticed the last couple of editions of 4x4 Action mag has had my MU in it, as project Himuzulux.

The first edition in November was written by me and was about 6 pages long... I was pretty happy with it and got pretty good feedback from those that read it... although the copy that went in the December issue was put together by the team at 4x4 action mag - and I would appreciate some feedback on it - especially if you read both... personally I'm not happy with it at all.

Oh, and if you wouldn't mind flicking a text off to 021 966 472 with the letter L in it, that will vote for my truck in the readers choice awards :) (Yes, thats shameless trolling for votes, I have to do it before the electoral reform bill comes into effect :P)

liked the first one but to be brutality honest the second one was pretty bad. Very hard to read with some very very random paragraphs thrown in there.

voted L for the lowest 4wd eva :afro:

Its a huge issue, I'm guessing they were really pushed to get it completed on time. Noticed quite a few spelling mistakes (quite bad ones IMHO). Photos printed upside down etc.

The only reason Steves second article made any sense was due to the fact I had already read it on here.
I showed it to a few mates and had to explain quite a bit of the article to them, and fill them in on the bits that had been missed out. (What I could remember of it)

Overall it was very dis-jointed and hard to follow.
Sorry to see it handled that way Steve.
It was a damned good build up.

Just in defence of the 4x4 action mag.

The second article was not written by 4x4 action, it was taken from a collection of post from this web site and compiled by 4x4action. I assume this was done under instruction by Supralux.

I also assume that Supralux didn't pay for the article to be printed and as this magazine is all about stories written by the 4wder you quite often get articles that are not perfectly compiled. To me, the story in the mag looks just like the posts on the site. It also looks like supralux has just had a heap of free advertising for his company?

My suggestions for future technical write ups is that you need to give a timeline of events and need to give detail of order of photo's and details of what is in each pic.

You really need to understand that not everyone will understand what you have written. We are all at different levels of technical know how and some things really need to be spell out.

I hope this is the sort of feedback you were after Supralux.

Cheers

Thanks for the feedback George, but you're wrong, you've made a number of assumptions... and assumption is the mother of all f%$kups. I am paying for the adverts that go with the story, so it is in no way free. This was all to be part of an advertising campaign to get my business known nationally.

In one thing you are right tho - it technically wasn't 'written' by them, but they compiled it without my knowledge and definitely without my prior approval. I would never have allowed it to be printed had I seen it before it went to print. It was in no way done under instruction by me, and in fact I was under the impression that nothing was going to be printed in this edition at all.

And as for your advice about planning the article, that is exactly what I did in the november edition, and I assumed I would have the chance to do so in december as well. I am definitely going to do the third one myself. The reason many people won't make sense of it is because it doesn't actually make sense. Its disjointed, random and has no flow at all.

Now don't get me wrong, compared to all other printed 4WD mags in this country 4x4 Action mag shines... its about real 4WDing, not brand new $100k+ shiny trucks no-one can afford. And I have spoken at length with Bobbie about this and have come to an agreement about a resolution (she accepts it wasn't right). But this wasn't supposed to just be a little ramble about my truck, it was supposed to be a (paid) spotlight on my ability and business direction. In that respect it fell flat and did more harm than good in my opinion.

So once again, thanks for your feedback. I understand you are naturally going to defend them given your involvement with the mag, but now you have a few more facts.

This is the bit where i get lost. Did you pay to have your personal story about your hybrid printed. Does the story say that the mods were performed by your company or is this just a backyard project that you were hoping to leverage some new business from.

If i was advertising my work in a magazine then I would pay for it. Its really the only way to get what you pay for.

And my final comment about this subject is:If you have an issue with someone about what they do, then take it up with that person. Please do not use this site to get peoples opinions about whether a company has done right or wrong by you.

It can only put this site in jeopardy.

I did. And generally speaking I always do. In that light, if you wish to discuss it further then flick me your phone number in a PM and we can discuss your obvious problem with this thread offline.

Should I look up your thoughts on another Chch 4WD company from a thread about "peoples opinions about whether a company has done right or wrong by you"?

jungle in another thread a while ago wrote:I'm stoked someone else has had issues with 4wd upgrades.
I've spent the last three years fixing the problems with my 80 series which was worked on extensively by this company.

Don't let them build adjustable panhard rods. Both the front and rear have failed.

My 5 cents worth. Inflation!!!!!!

Need I search for more? There are other posts by you and they are a lot more vicious than that one. How can you tell me not to ask for opinions about something like my issue, but it seems that its ok to air your dirty laundry about another company? Just a little hypocritical don't you think? I think your relationship with the mag is clouding your judgement a bit.

Ok, I'll say it again it was not my intention to bring 4x4 action mag into disrepute. I happen to like the mag and the editor. I just wanted feedback on what others thought of the article, which I happen to feel was a slip-up.

I don't want to be picky, but you stated that you have spoken to Bobbie about this and come to a resolution or something along those lines.

If this is so, then why have you insisted on degrading this magazine in public. The latest issues have had articles written by Bobbie about how the mag was started and just how far its come in 4 short years.

I can only see harm coming form this topic.

The magazine exists because people like you and me write articles and buy it off the shelf or subscribe.

It seems a shame that a fair few of you like minded individuals on this site have seen fit to vote no confidence in the magazine that you so clearly think is the best 4x4 mag in NZ.

my 2c. take it or leave it :!:

Skid, can I just emphasise that the intent of this thread was to draw peoples attention to the fact I was in the mag, and that any votes for my truck would be gratefully received... In that light it should, if anything at all, boost sales for the mag.

I wanted feedback on the december issue simply because I wasn't happy with the way "my" article was assembled. If everyone else is happy with it then well and good, I'm just being picky - if not then great, I'm vindicated. Thats the end of it. It wasn't the focus of the thread when I started it, and it only really became so when George got all huffy about it.

I can't see the harm you are talking about actually coming to fruition, in fact the terms "no confidence", "degrading" and "harm" seem a little melodramatic to me. I will still put articles and advertising in, and others will still buy it. Some people might even buy it just to see what all the fuss is about.

I think at this point either the whole thread needs locking so it passes into history, or that those who think I am in the wrong here go back and read the threads first post again. Its gone well off-topic and I have better things to do than to keep having to defend myself for no good reason.

If anyone else has a problem with my stance on the matter, please feel free to call me - or PM me your number so I can call you.

I find it a really good mag with articles written by people for people and good on the people that put the mag together and the people that take the time to write and submit articles :thumright:

I havent read the Dec issue so I cant comment on the article that was printed but it all sounds like theres just been a lack of communication between both parties over the ongoing feature?
