While changing a wheel bearing I discovered that there is play in the bushes in the top wishbone.
Having taken the nut and washer off I cant quite see how to get the bush out ??

They are black (rubber ?? ), not the new red type

ooh, bugger :!:

The old bushes have to be pressed out. and new ones pressed in.

Hope your wallet isn't to empty after Xmas, mine is, hence the second hand arm, was $65.00 + GST from a local CHCH wrecker, the nolathane bush kit was over $200 the last time I priced it, but that is for both sides of course

There is no real easy way to get the arm off past the brake lines, its an undo it and bleed it again after you put the arm back in again job :(

If you want some detailed pointers give me a shout and I will see what I can put together for you, it's not really all that hard to do.

So to take it off Do I remove the bolts that you can see the heads of either side of the brake line, after removing the brake line.
And split the ball joint. ??

Yip, your on the right track, I usually split the ball joint first, takes the tension off the arm that way, big socket to undo those two big bolt heads you mention, (they are threaded into a plate on the other side that goes across the two bolts, so you wont need anything to hold the inside.

You will probably find some shims between either one, or both of the bolts, and the main arm pin, and the chassis, just make sure you take a note of where they were so you can put it back that way when you put the arm back in, they affect the wheel alignment/Castor/camber etc.

If you undo the nut on the steel pipe from master cylinder to the top of the hose, it means less to take out to get the arm out.

you will need to undo the bracket on the underside of the arm that the brake hose routes through as well to get the arm completely clear.

 sounds like I have done this before, only twice, honest

If you strike any snags, just give me a shout.

I will try to get some pics to add to this post, so others that need it can follow it, but not tonight, I've been up since 3 am, and its close to time for some sleep.

Well the one I just took out was my first second hand one, it's been in there for a year :( and it had nolathane bushes in it when I got it  I'm hacked off I didn't keep a better eye on it, cos now I've toasted two perfectly good bushes!
