rev counter sensor

my rev counter has started to play sometimes its all good and another its redlining(i wish) and then it will go back to normal,i take it theres a sensor somewhere have looked in my manual but cant really find much out about it
any help would be good

Hi what engine you running? If its a petrol pick up is usually coil or ecu. Diesels either from alternator or ecu again if she's a bit modern!!

I've read around that thats just a Safari thing. Not sure what causes it. Mine does it as well.

engine revolution sensor has a yellow with black trace and ayellow with white trace wire , black earthfeed is yellow red

start at the back of the tacho and work from there i suppose

On the Surf diesels the sensor is in the fuel pump I think... Not sure on the Safaris...

just read the manual does not mention rev sensor in injector removal

The pickup for a TD42 is on the front of the engine, if you look at the front of the engine it is just to the right of the water pump. Held in with two bolts.
