Hey guys, just joined up as i just brought a 4wd to play around with, over the whole fast cars thing so though a 4wd would keep me occupied in the mean time.

Picked up my new 4wd last week... details below.

1990 Hilux surf

Ln130 chassis with the EFI 2lt turbo diesel motor
done just a shade over 200kms
very good condition exterior and interior, motor was well looked after serviced every 5000kms

had new clutch last year, cambelt tensioners and waterpump 20,000kms ago with a new battery last month!

Am wanting to just get the basics of 4wding, and plan to do a few little things etc, spring lift 2', snorkel and maybe a freer flowing 2.5' exhaust?? and replace my tires are theyre gettin abit low on tread

Would anyone be able to explain how to put it into 4wd mode?? i pushed the 4wd lever to L4 and drove forward to engage 4wd but nothing happens? is a light supposed to come on to?

Thanks in advance
Matt :D

Hey Matt, welcome to ORE and the Wellington 'gang'! There are quite a good bunch of guys (and a few of the girls are OK too) here that go out on trips reasonably often. If you want a baptism by fire then you should come out to Rallywoods this weekend. There's quite a few people from all over the country converging there for the long weekend. I wouldn't recommend actually doing any 4wding in your new truck there though if you haven't got good tyres and not too sure if 4wd even works, but there'll be a spare seat for you with someone that can show you the ropes.

Give us a yell if you want any more info or help with anything.

Mark

Welcome, my brother inlaws 91 5 speed surf has a button on the side of the gear change that selects 4wd then the lever only controls high or low ratio. it has a light in the lower right corner of the speedo cluster.

Cheers,

Alan

Welcome to the Welly ORE network, like Mark says, heaps of good guys and gals around here

Rallywoods and Akas are a good trip, maybe not for your first couple though, keep an eye on the trips planned section for Aotea block, the hazards ranging from "dead easy" to "are you Farkin kiddin" and all in a small area

or a group going round redrocks bit of rock climbin and sand driven

look forward to meeting another surf driver 8)

Come along to the trip this weekend, you don't have to take it offroad as there should be spare seats, stay the night and bring beer as well viewtopic.php?f=9&t=9538

I'm running the trip, call me if you want 027 479 2417

i had a custermers surf same thing sometimes it would select 4wd but pop out and sometimes wouldn't select it, it came down to a broken wire between '4wd button' and relay (witch is by the clutch pedal)
