Cool 8) , That last trip you did was awsome :D . I went up to the Macaulay hut at new years, and the track had washed away making it an interesting trip up.

Hi Jeremy,
great to hear you had the confidence from the trip I ran to head up there for yourself, hope you showed it to ome of your mates after all if we don't use these places we will most probably lose them to the tree huggers.
This year I intend to head up to the glacier...do some rock crawling and stay near red stag hut somewhere, it will be fun but slightly more robust than last trip........i.e Tim is not the only one rock crawling

ohhh come on guys, you can at least have a drive of mine just so we all have a go
all jokes aside, it's a trip where you're as welcome as a grade 2 as a 5 and it's either grade depending on what YOU choos to make it, we will accomodate everyone from a std isuzu bighron to one of those nutters in a tube buggy from Canterbury

You got any pics of the top end where it gets interesting Tim?

Is there somewhere near the start that is safe for tow cars?
When are you looking at going?
How long is the drive in to the good shit?

Have meant to do this for trip for over 10 years now (my old club used to go in once or twice a year)

Sorry for the 20 questions  :D

ORE Mike took video of me in the boulders and low gears, i'll see what I can dig out of him when he comes back from up north.
You can tow 3/4 the way there with a std 4wd such as the prado, or about 2 hours less with a trailer.
will go about August as it's the most scenic.
its a long drive from Chch to the good shit :|
but aside from the good shit, you won't find a better scenic spot in the WORLD, that I assure you...... if the sky is clear, and the boulders are huge

You won't regret it! The 4wding is great and the scenery is amazing (as long as Tim gets the weather right again :D )
My avatar is at Red stag hut.
