tyres first, not nesecerially bigger, but better, then a lsd or locker,no point having 35,s if evey one you go out with is on 31,s or 33,s

33's will fit with standard suspension if you don't mind cutting the rear guards. To fit 35's you'll need lift springs & longer shocks so will cost quite a bit more ($2 cutting disc v $2000+ lift kit). A lockrite in the rear makes a huge difference offroad, but takes a little getting used to on the road. Bloody good value for the cost. And don't get "skinny" tryes - the 33x12.5 tyres are a good idea as they will widen the wheel track - otherwise the 40's can get a bit "tippy" on taller tyres.

Peow Peow.

I found the locked diff made more difference than new tyres.

You saw how Millsys LSD failed.
A big inflexible pig like a 40 needs as much power at the wheel most planted.
Lock it first.

Tim.

And maybe years after you`ve started your mods you'll be able to drive it again and not have to just go out in mates trucks... I miss my 40

Go the locker in the rear. Easy enough to do yourself and should only cost about $600.

Guys would recommend tyres first as they are very important. Recond it would be better to save some more dollars and get yourself a set of dedicated off road tyres (prob some Simex's) but that costs $$$.

If your on a budget go for 33's. Something else to look at is some better shocks (longer travel) to get more flex (keep the wheels on the ground).

I'd recommend power steering and disc brakes on the front too as turning big flat mud tyres can kill the arms in the bush and have had one incident already due to brake failure (mud in drums).

Good luck mate, 40's are an awesome wagon.

Owning a 40

Tendency not to think to much

On ORE

"Yoall do alright lad, youal do alright"

Oh, go for the 33's, lsd, front and back, skorkel, then replace lsd for a locka

Start planning ahead to do them both dino, they both go hand in hand  ..... I stuck 35" simexs on my old flat deck cruiser and it was awesome until my lack of articulation kept sticking wheels up in the air making me lose drive so I put locking diffs in both ends and now it goes a lot of places it never could have   8) 8)

Hi Dino,

Remember that unless you are going for a image machine or competing, as Swampa eluded to you are not going to need 35's in Southland. 33's are fine for most stuff and by the sounds are much easier to fit to a 40.

And, please - a keyboard has all the letters (no text speak yo) 8)

Do you have a pic of your 'cruiser?

Glen
