hey after few pieces of info,
making up some shackles and mounts at mo so when time comes to weld on and install falcons its all sitting ready......
so....
how long are the shackles you guys running on average?? c/ of bolt to bolt
do they have to be certain steel? eg hardened or anything?
how wide are the mounts and how far from the chassis is the bolt hole??
finally, whats a good way to test my springs to check if they still have life to avoid getn them reset?? can i measure eye to eye or anything?
specs on hangers, shackles, springs.....
Hi there I have made normal old hangers out of 50 x 6 mm mild steel and they last fine, as for lenght you can make them as long as you want, but anything longer than 100mm centres you will need to put a spacer in the middle, And the longer they are the more they dig in when you are backing up banks, etc. Thats about all i can say. Have fun.
With the Falcons you will need a couple of things. First, its a balance act with the front, so wait till we fit 'em and second the width is different so we either need to bend them of use some big washers to space the truck end out a bit... the 'coon springs are 65mm wide where the 'Lux ones are 60...
I've got some 40x8 here that should be fine to make em, and if you buy a greasable shackle you can steal the pin out of it and use it on the new plates, combined with a 1/2" HT bolt for the spring. No charge for the steel, no charge for the drill press, no charge for using tools, just let me know about the greasable shackles (approx $25 each) and the bolt $? cheap... can't remember the length... or you can just use the old pins if they're not too worn but don't re-use the old bolt.
