Wanted: Regulator to fit sodastream for MIG

Post by icekayak »

Can't quite justify the cost of cylinder hire and have got a couple of the soda stream cylinders floating around so seems like the best option at the moment...

Looking for a regulator if anyone's got one for sale :) (or an adapter to convert soda stream to normal co2 fitting as have a normal co2 reg here)
Otherwise will have to go buy one new... (Think their about $75 unless anyone knows somewhere cheaper??)

Cheers
Chris

Otherwise would consider argon/co2/??? cylinder if anyones got one cheap too :)

yeah shame you cant buy them here, i sold a good MIG as i also couldnt justify renting a cylinder to use it once every now and again. In England you can buy small disposable cylinders much like a sodastream cartridge but about twice the size in various ar/co2 mixes. Tried to find my old reg for them as they are likely a similar thread to sodastream, but cant for the life of me find it in the garage.. i tried :P

Im in the same situation, i pay rental each month on a boc bottle that i use bugger all argosheild from, you can get the soda bottles and addapters from trademe but the are not cheap, http://www.trademe.co.nz/Business-farmi ... 870478.htm .

You can get a co2 bottle from the fire guys who test and fill fire extinguishers. about $200 depending on size. Thats the way i will probably go, as i could of payed for one twice over with the rental price of the bottle. :)

Hey
Thanks for the replies... Just hoped on the off chance someone may have one floating around here not being used, but oh well life goes on :)
Mitre10, repco etc etc sell the disposable bottles... they are about $45-89 depending on what gas is in them etc etc.. from memory they are 390gm and soda stream is 250gm if i've got the remember correctly.
For the disposable they want $100-150 for the reg for that too :(

I have actually got the use of a big flash 3 phase mig welder now (which is awesome of the guy to offer its use for me providing i pay gas and wire) so will use that for bigger jobs

And I have discovered a guy on trademe with what i think is the best option for me at the moment (other than using the big one) Assuming he still does them...
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Business-farming-industry/Industrial/Manufacturing-metalwork/Welding/auction-131945275.htm (Expired listing)
He sells 390gm disposable co2 bottle complete with regulator for $40 reserve, and then he said he can do extra bottles for $17.00 each. Considering they are close to double the size of a sodastream bottle (which i thought was about $10 to fill) works out similar price :) (And the thought had crossed my mind as to if it would be possible to refill them off a big cylinder)

When i am done with it and upgrade i'm sure i can get the $20 back for the reg :D

hi do you know anyone in the hotel industry as the beer dispensers are CO2 regulators and pubs are always changing/ upgrading their pumps or book into the hospital for an evening :) as they have CO2 regs as well.

Interesting, hadn't thought of that... unfortunately don't know any bar owners...
What do hospitals use CO2 for? never noticed it before there...

Sounds expensive doing it the sodastream way..... I just got a big old CO2 fire extinguisher (which was being thrown out so was free....) and had a valve put on... Cant remember capacity, but it stands about 500mm high or maybe more, and only costs around $40 to fill...
