wellington spear fishing

Does anyone know of any decents spots for spearfishing, able to get to without the use of boats?

Give the guys at splash gordons a call in wellington, i used to see them when i took dive students down there, very helpfull fellas

Just over the south coast go over red rocks over devils gate and drive around about 5 min. i went spear fishing there last weekend, caught a few decent sized mokis and butterfish. first time out there. was great fun :)

I think my mate used to head out here with good success with Butter Fish. I can't remember what it's called, but it's easily accessible. (zoom map out to see where it is!)



Also, if you feel like walking for about 45 mins you can head to Boom Rock, north from Makara Beach.

Anywhere around the south coast is ok for butterfish, Moke etc just a matter of exploring it
