Toyota Surf IFS idler arm

Post by mike »

Hi Ya All,

I'm after a toyota surf idler arm. Standard from all IFS models. If anyone has wrecked one lately or done a sas then youll most likely have that sitting there. I'm needing it to figure out how to strengthen it against bending (as mine bent, bent it back for now)

Cheers

Surely you'd just weld it wouldn't you
Would the genuine Toymota part not be a better bet?

The Surf idlers have three different sized shafts.
I used to replace idlers at least once every 8-10 months in my IFS Surf after bending them and re-bending them, After breaking one off up Denniston, West Coast I tracked down a second hand one with the largest diameter shaft and it lasted the last two years of my surfs life, never bent it once. The last time my surf was out I had the front of the surf air born and upon landing it ripped the steering box out of the chassis but didn't bend the idler at all.

Downey make an idler arm brace for the 4Runner.
They claim it will stop you bending the idler arm.
