CB Radio

Post by mike »

Hi all,

I know this is an age old question. What CB should I buy. I had one in my old landrover but forget what it was. Do I get an Rf,AM or UHF one?? :?: :? what do the majority of people have? I went to Dick smiths today to have a look and walked out in a big confused state

Mike

Most people seem to use the good old AM CB.
I have an UNIDEN AM CB from dick smith and it works fine.

Just to show off - I have both :D

I would say it depends who you wheel with and where you are from...

The Auckland region clubs mostly have AM CB's whereas the Welly clubs are on A-Band [from the old taxis] which is a good higher powered alternative...

Having said that more and more people are using hand held PRS radios... which is a pain in the arse for us AM CB users - left out of the conversation again.....

PRS is getting cheaper all the time - If I was starting again I would go PRS... there you go - I can get off the fence :D

Since I'm doing most of my job hunting around Auckland area I'll go with the AM CB.

Went into Tait mobile radios today and asked. 500 smackaroos for a full installation and if I did it my self I would blow the unit up! 8O

That dick smith electronics one is looking real good? Did the aerial come with it?

I am sure it will work much better tuned - but I never have had mine done and it still goes fine....

You need a SWOR meter and a radio geek.... Never managed to find one... :D

Positioning of the aerial is probably the other thing - nice big ground plane really helps...

If you are looking for CB's. The place to go is Trade-me.co.nz. :D
I have just replaced my old GME unit with a spunky little Uniden one that cost me $170. :P
Just got to finish wiring the UHF in and I'll be away and racing listening to anyone :D
