Looks sharp Haynzy, looks like a Trailgear winch mount from SNR that you've used as the basis for this!

Na I cut that mount up with my skillsaw and nailed it together with my nail gun and some pva glue

Very nice, I like it.

I am very pleased with the effort as it involved removing the transmission skid plate, front driveshaft, back half of the transfer case, taking apart the internals (including front output shaft and yoke) and then putting it all back together with a new rear output shaft and a yoke. New driveshaft is in my hand, but need to do a couple of checks first to make sure all went in as it should have (got a bit dark when I got finished).

had a busy weekend ,on saturday cut a whole lot of trees down for firewood (35metre pine trees ). man they land with an awesome thump .had a bit of an incident where the wind caught one just as i was doing the back cut ,jammed my stihl o64 in it and had to use my little o23 to finish the cut from the front.final result tree went the wrong way and smacked my o64 on the way down ,smashed the chain cover ,carburetor housing ,top handle and fuel tank,man was i pissed.and the wood was for other people ,aw well shit happens .today did a clean up and went to the tip .got home and decided that after the firewood loop the previous weekend i need more power out of my 400 so pulled the old heads off so i can put some new edelbrock performer rpm alloys on.put it on the dyno the other day so i have a before reading and once the heads go on i,ll re dyno it .got 260 hp at the back wheels and a torque curve that would twist superman into a pretzel (well maybe rubberman ).gunna have a play with a bit a valve relief work on the new heads before they go on .edelbrock reckon bolt on hp of between 30-70 hp gain ,mmmmmm sounds good to me ,dyno man reckons you lose up to 30% power thru gearbox and transfer so if my maths is average thats about 330 hp at the crank,not bad considering my year motor was rated at 195hp .roll on the dyno ,i,ll try and video it like petefj40 in chch did and put it up on the site ,of to a bbq now .might have a couple of cold ones (or more)

I got the fishplates done for my new rear crossmember.

we went up to the Naki to meet Nick(mazda068) and the guys who showed us some fantastic tracks and wonderful hospitality! the whangas road trip was great, cant wait to head back in there come winter when its a bit more wet and a bit less dust lol! then today did a track that truthfully scared the poos from me it was just wider than the crusier at most points and I have never attempted such tacks before lol! was all good once we turned around due to a slip removing half the track as my confidence had improved... didnt get to do the coolies tack as needed to be back in palmy mid arvo, but from what i was told will be another worthwhile trip ( summer only thou)! was great to meet more OREs members and do some more tracks! the Naki has a host of tracks, i encorage more to go there, even steve ( dont know your ore name sorry bud) drove all the way from hastings just for sundays trip!! Nick, Bob and rake are top blokes who love their 4wds, and i should also mention wilson in his 2000 patrol LWB on swampers attacking the tracks and all the others who were there as well!

note the logs jammed under the bridge? this is the bridge to somewhere and i would guess its a easy 100ft above the river.. must've been a hell of a flood to get them up that high!

35 metre high pines? I wouldn't want to get in the way of those suckers when they fall! Sounds like you had your work cut out for you. (excuse the pun)
Your dyno man thinks the same as mine. Mine says a lose of between 25-30% through the drive train. Maybe a little more going through a transfer case. I forget the figures my 40 produced at the rear wheels on that last dyno run. But I do remember not being that impressed. I'm hoping for a good run next time. And I'll be posting a video of it.
Really looking forward to seeing someone elses 40 on a dyno. That would be so cool. My run wasn't that good.

Well for a change my reply is 4wd related, except that my weekend is more of a week really that started last tuesday night, when I was at the workshop working on the rally truck to get ready for the weekend, 1am finish, then parts retrieving on wednesday night, then workshop on thursday night, 2am finish, then workshop from lunchtime friday, finally drove truck onto trailer at howies workshop after a mad dash over the hill to bend the panhard arm and make some bumpstop mounts and then back to workshop for the final touches and load up spares and tools for the weekend, home by 10pm. 5.30am start on saturday morning to get the VX packed with all our gear as we were camping on the rally site and leave at 8am. Up to Piopio for scrutineering and on to the rally site, where we set up camp and drunk some ales. Got woken up at 1.30 am by someone returning the missus to our tent, very drunk and sporting a black eye from falling out of the portaloo.

Rally on sunday where we came 13th in class and 16th overall ( I think), and then the long drive home, arriving back in welly at 1am.

caught up with lilpig and wopass and watched furgus trying to drive his half share of a rally truck through the pits on saturday night whilst trying to demolish the gearbox, by trying to make al the teeth come out. he must of been drinking.

work today and washed the VX when I got home, now having tea and then I have to unpack the VX from the weekend.

I think I need some sleep.


oh and by the way, there ain't nothing finer than following a big ass open top 40 down the state highway. nice wop, nice

back on topic

went to pio pio sunday to stretch the legs on me and the cruiser,helped out at the rally...took lots of pics saw a few of the lads and drove home again.... think i burnt about $100 of fuel to get there and back.... not bad i thought considering its near on 2 buks a litre thats about 50l for 350ish kms so thats about 7kms to the litre...not bad considering its shoving big wheels allong the road in a vehicle with all the aerodynamics of a brick and the front hubs were in all the way down there

Drove to Kawerau today . 9 Hrs there and back from Jafa land.

But it was worth it because i brought my self this.



1985 Suzuki SJ413 Convertible on 31's

Well, the weekend started last Thursday and finished yesterday. Went into Daniells, trying out the new 31's on the Escudo. A bit of guard rub, but not too bad. Overheating every time I drive more than about 15kms, I think the radiators a bit gunged up, but it doesn't look too bad. Those 31's really do make it work noticably harder! I'm going to pull out the air-con in an attempt to improve airflow and cooling, anyone done this for that reason? If so how did you find the improvement, if any?

Flat brand new tyre on second morning in there, Bugger. Got it fixed in Reefton and found it flat again the next morning when back in the bush. Double Bugger! Repairer fixed the hole in the tube, but put another one in when scouring the surface for the patch!!!

Got home with what I think is the clutch making some really nasty rattling sounds, maybe terminal?

Next few nights will undoubtedly be spent crawling under the truck. Oh well, it was worth it.
