NEW TRANSMISSION

Hi All

I'm wanting to move my engine back 80mm to 100mm in my rally truck, the current layout is a 3sge attached to a w50 steel case 5 speed, short drive shaft then a transfer case from a 410 flatdeck, I think the low ratio is around 2.5, diff ratios are 4.8's (hilux) and 33" tyres.

I want increase the clearance between the sump bowl and front axle, also align the mounts on the engine, and get the weight off the front a bit more.
Later on I intend to replace the 3sge with a 3agte going from 186Nm to 304Nm and fit some 35's but that is a wee way off, so I want something which can take the abuse.

I want to keep the same transfer ratio or lower, as it is good at the moment.

So my questions is what transmissions choices are there that might suite? :D

Cheers
Chris

im in the process of fitting a 3s into a hilux- just for something different. i have a 4wd liteace with the 2c diesel, i have been told the 2c bellhousing fits the 3s motor and surf/hilux tranny.
all going well i will have the liteace gearbox out over the weekend and try the bellhousing out for size on the gearbox and motor.
i am using a fwd 3s motor so i will have to change the starter mount, make provision for a spigot bearing (fwd motors dont have them)

ok, the 2c bellhousing fits both the 3sfe motor and the hilux gearbox. so that means the 3sge will also fit as its the same series.

Hi Tristanp

Do you know how strong a w56 or g52 transmission is?

i see guys putting 3.8 commodore v6 engins infront.. i think its the torque that kills gearboxes rather than horsepower

Do the v6's destroy the gear box's, One of the guys at work races a mr2, he's swapped the turbo changed the intercooler and put on a full flow exhaust, 160kw at the rear wheels, the torque is up around 400nm, not bad for a 2ltr, max torque is at 3200rpm.

G52's are the weakest, then next strongest are theW's , and the strongest is the R series
