2005 Kiwi Challenge

Hey people. Sooty here. Thought I would do a quick update for those who wish to know.
The Kiwi Challenge (Formally The Dennys) is to be held in Rotorua on Oct 23rd to Oct 27th - actual comp days. And all in one spot NO TRANSIT STAGES!!! WOOHOO !!!
I will be running the event independantly and it is looking great so far. Have had confirmation today of 10 Australian teams who are setting up now to be here, just trying to work a good deal for the expensive part - the shipping. If that gets solved the way we hope then its fantastic news.
If anyone is interested in competing, or mashalling, let me know. The website is going through some changes at the moment, bad timing but it had to be done as it is way to slow.
THe Palmy Challenge may not happen now as it was a joint thing between myself and ARB, its just the timing this year that is getting tough for us both. We will have to make a decision in the next two weeks. The plan is for it to be a technical event, and a pure enduro, running from 9am Sat to 2 or 3am Sun morning, no breaks. Also it allows anyone who has done the Rotorua time to test or modify and for anyone new to do the same before the Kiwi.
Thanks for taking the time to read this!
Anyway heres my contact details if you need them:

YA hoooooo
count me in for any help. Can't compete as rebuillding a race car and repowering trans am ( its a money thing ) but willing to help any way I can. Just a small point though, would this be open to spectators? as some local competitions are not spectator friendly.
best of luck
cheers DJ

we are holding a public day on the Monday, being a public holiday and all. and then for those who wish to watch for the rest of the week or on odd days the land owner will be overseeing a spectator package which at this stage will be a lunch and transport to the stages etc. this will ensure we keep traffic and walkers under control.
for spectators camping the package will apparantly include breakfast and dinner, all these little logistical things will be sorted over next few weeks.
best thing is the four days only that people need to take off, not two weeks virtually like last year......
if you are in as a marshal send me an email so i can put you on the list mate.
cheers

just out of curosity...
what sort of regulation, stipulation, certification does a truck need to have to compete

would really like to do something like this but with my budget i think the full on comps are out of my league

unless the issues of regs isnt toooo bad

ahhh nice

good question, need more of it really, getting new blood into the sport. To keep it very basic, a good tough 4wd, must be road legal which means reg and wof. roll cages and harness, helmets. the rest is fickle, thats the major part of it. The rules will be posted soon on the website, actually thinking about it I will post the Oz rules which are very close to ours to give people an idea.
any questions feel free to ask away...

it must be a certified road legal vehicle dude.
the wire rope was banned for a few reasons. one because it meant that we did not have to worry about the dampener ruling which was ending up being very dangerous. its long winded easier to explain in person!
but yes, synthetic ropes only and they must meet certain safety regs.
DOH !

it can get that way, dont fret, I am planning to make a smaller series to suit the vehicles and operators who dont want to go to the international type level.
But hey, come marshal, grab an idea of the sport.

If your just wanting to watch the public day on Monday then thats open to all. Just turn up at the Rotorua stock car track on the labour weekend monday with $5 in your hand.
If you want to be involved with the entire event then visit the warlordautosports.com website and find your way into the volunteer marshal area or spectator area. Should be email address and phone numbers there.

Re the public day, where is it for definate? From what I can gather on Sooty's site if you d/load the event notes it looks like it is on-site at the same venue as the rest of the event.
Cheers, Jeff.

I've just got back from there, at the end of Wednesday, Kriminal was leading followed by Fluffee, and Bruce Hughes 3rd, I'd say it'll be a bit different by the end of today. Bruce is trying his best to destroy his truck as he has a new one on the boards I think. He rolled quite severely onto his roof, but repaired and continued. Fair bit of gear breakage, mainly CV's etc.

I can give you the top 3 places.
1st Fluffe and Dave from the Nor-west club. Well done boys. Long live leaf springs. Yeah!!
2nd Criminal and Huddy. Aus
3rd Bruce and Freddy from down south. They'll be back stronger than ever next year
Was a great event. The DVD should be amazing with the amount of film crew involved.
Cheers
