I have just installed a auto trans cooler on my 80 series and the experts told me that i should leave the plumbing running through the radiator aswell as through the new cooler. I assume the radiator keeps the trans oil at a certain temp which is good for the auto.

Seemed to make sense to me. Can't see why toyota would plumb it up that way if it didn't have any benefit.

Cheers

the auto cooler on those really restricts the radiator flow. common mod is to shorten and/or move the trans cooler over so it doesn't crowd the pipe. otherwise make a simple external one. it pays to keep the water/trans one as its quiet efficient and the radiator heat can help regulate the trans temp. adding an external cooler will help, especially if fitted with thermostat so the trans fluid doesn't get to cold.
