Knob next to steering column on '95 Safari?

I'd appreciate it if any other Safari/Patrol owners could enlighten me:

There is a knob next to the steering column that is labeled with a rather meaningless picture - it's a mechanical control that turns (or perhaps pulls?). On another Patrol I've seen the same knob labeled with the word "Lock".

Can anyone enlighten me as to what this is and how you use it? It's bugging me but I'm a bit cautious about locking the wrong thing at the wrong time!

Thanks!

Jan

I think you may be talking about the hand throttle. Pull it out and turn to lock in at desired rpm.

Be carful how fr you turno it or the knob will come off. ie it is only a quarter of a turn to lock it.
