this is my surf when i first got it, after a nice wash

all 2.4 litres of raw unadulterated slowness...

and after chucking the 33's on, and losing a few minor bits of plastic and steel around the front :lol:

and this one shows how big my flares are going to have to be

where will i find flares to fit? if even available... i looked on 4wdbits but couldnt find any flares of any type, or on trademe...

check back through old topics. the flavour of the moment seems to be plastic garden edging from Bunnings

TWL sells it...its not cheap.
Just drillthrough ya gurad and screw it up. looks good an tidy when its done.

went to mitre10 mega today and found rolls of garden edging, 5mx135mm (i think) for $20... even comes in two colours :lol:

but i have to say, it seems like it would look really rangi...

from what I've seen on pics on ORE, it can be trimmed to look real nice, almost factory looking

Considering how easy these things are ripped off and a big roll is $20 you may be better off with the cheap bunnings option, that all I'm putting on mine....

My toy - work in progress, currently doing body work, fixing dash up.

As I Bought it:

Current stuff - powder coated hinges etc, rewired dash, resprayed windshield...

Waiting on new dash panels from the States, VDO gauges, and powder coated valve/air filter/timing covers.

Needs a winch and to relocate the power steering motor, it's currently sitting out front of the truck.

Trying to get the doors and roof ready for next winter!

I'm in Christchurch, the beast doesn't fit in the garage. Great day to drive it today, had it at work. It's an excellent vibration test for my ass with that solid suspension on our roads.

to make it comfortable, you may want to look at getting that shackle angle right. At the moment its negative. To make it ride nice, the shackle angle would be good at 45deg. To do that it either needs a new main leaf made longer, or substitute the lifted springs for a SOA and flat standard springs.

It's got a 4" suspension lift, it's good for the clearance over those 35's. I was thinking that when I throw the roof on and replace the rear wooden tailgate with barn doors the extra weight would help her ride a bit better.

Anyway, she's exhilirating to drive, great fun - and i'm sure awesome out on the trails.

I'll get a photo up of how she looks now.

hey do you get a warrent with all those lights??

I had to remove a hole lot i had on 2 different trucks because "All forward facing lights must be hooked up to the driving light circuit so they can be dimmed with the headlamps" and thats straight from the testing station guys.

BJ74 plus 6K

nothing wrong with VX

high kms, but looked after.

previous owner had it serviced by my mate, so I knew who to ask about it.

5 speed manual, factory lockers front and rear and I got to put my mags on it before we swapped.

old owner just wanted some coin, he sold my old BJ74 for only $500 profit 2 weeks later, it now lives down south somewhere.

it does need new trailing arm bushes and new shocks/springs, but that can wait until someone gives me the winning lotto ticket. :cry:

it was on the side of the road for sale and I stopped to look at it just as the owner was walking away from it, so we chatted and I said I couldn't afford it, he asked what I was doing with my old cruiser and we came to an arrangement and the deal was done the next day.

he saw me about a week later and said that he had at least 5 people a day ring him up asking if it was still for sale.

I guess you could say I was in the right place at the right time

When I go for a warrant I drop 2 off the bullbars. The joker that did my warrant reckons the lights on the roof rack are ok as long as they're offroad use only.
