wopass wrote:shoes de-laminated, happens a fair bit bro, nothing strange there, you may have had it a little tight on her adjustment side causing slight rubbing while driving = exess heat and de-lam... but yea go back to shop and get new set they weren't even adjusted up yet, there was this screeching noise, so I took apart for checking and adjustment and found the brand new shoes were faaarked

regards to getting on the road, grats mate, tis a good feeling eh!! what size zaust pipe is it? did you go from the flexi at the front? bout 2.5" I think. the bloody rock in the river when I drowned was the size of a wee suzuki and smashed and bent the faaark outta the zaust, so I chopped it off after the wee muffler just down from the flexi, and after a day of driving like that and hearing Mr Offroaders 3" no muffler exhaust, I just decided for now to put pipe behind muffler and out in front of rear wheel

has any of the boys down there tweaked it for you yet? nup, to be honest its pulling like rexo or nibby watching a good porn, so am inclined to leave it for now, still got a few things to finish up on it, but am stoked that it pulled 5th gear up Kaitoke Hill today with ease and then 4th over the rimutaka hill and it never used to do that before

hahahahahahaha, cheers for the advice, the work phone bill that month was a bloody shocker, lots of calls around the country chasing advice and bits

I faaaarking give up

these stupid handbrake systems are pissing me off

had them apart countless times for various reasons and still I can't get a good handbrake out of it

So I've had enough, gonna see my mechanic today and tell him hes gonna be getting a big old dirty 80 series in his workshop next week, and he can make bloody well sure it leaves with a handbrake that holds

:x :x :x :x :x

I'm guessing you know that you do a rough adjustment at the wheels, and the rest is at the handbrake leaver.

You adjust the leaver so you have four clicks of upward movement thats all.

on and off that many times

adjusting thru the teeny weeny hole on the adjusting wheel way back in the rotor is faaarking awkward

adjusted up so rotors were hard to push on, then sneak a bit more on adjusting wheel till wheel only just turns

then go up to lever and have to wind the stupid nut to the bottom to get it anywhere near holding anything

too much stress, have to go out and thrash flatties trials truck this arvo for a child cancer run

1st low/in gear will do for a handbrake for now

So logically something on the cable system has popped off, or the cable is stretched beyond its limit for some odd reason.

Be interested to know. I have to adjust the crap outa mine every WOF, so know your pain!!!!!

when you adjust at the shoes make sure the lever stops on the back of the backing plate where the cable is hooked to is backed off as well so you can get the propper adjustment at the shoes on the inside then finish off at the handbrake lever in the cab. having said that i still have similar issues, you know why?? cos its how they are!! get used to it and get good at it

they need ample clearance from the shoes to drum surface or they wear and thats why you have to adjust them all the time, they only have a short movement and thats why the work well when set up right, my road bus has about 8 clicks of free play then it starts working has been like that for about 10 months.

ohh and dont move/drive with the hand brake on or pull it up to stop cos thats just as bad
If you already know everything, DON'T ask bloody questions!!
