Re: buying winch
Whats the procedure for operating the pto? such as transfer case postion and main gear box, also the truck can not be driven while winching correct? Cheers
Re: buying winch
Yes, of course you can drive. Just put it in gear. 5 speed winch + reverse.
If you want to dead pull, transfer case in N, to winch & drive, in 4L.
Same as Mitsubishi PTO. Nissan PTO can winch forward, drive forward or reverse if you so desire.
Winch & drive will usually be 1st, Dead pull will be 2nd or 3rd depending on how fast and much pain you want to put the winch under, rewinding the winch rope on, you'd be in 4th or 5th as it's the fastest.

It would pay to pop the PTO cover plate off your transfercase and see if your transfercase has the PTO drive gear installed, some of them just have a spacer in place of the drive gear

Re: buying winch
There are disadvantages with cruiser PTO winches.
1 The last 3 trips they have held us up by shearing the pins and one blew the housing to pieces as well
2 They stick out the front which means your approach angle is no good
3 You might have 5 speeds but it is hard to select the right one to keep a tight rope because the load alters during the winch
I have a 9500 Ti warn . It has seals to keep shit out and is quite quick and works very well. I haven't heard a bad word about them to date , but they are expensive
