tgaguy1 wrote:One question though Reece, You mentioned putting a Teflon layer between the leaves of a spring pack to alleviate friction. What effect would that have on a road going truck? Would it improve road handling and would it improve off road performance?

Thanks

Jase.

Its a two edged sword this one that stiction while making the spring slower to react also dampens its oscillation's meaning you will need more dampening from your shocks with teflon
there is also going to be a bit of softening of the spring rate because the stiction is gone
You will also get more axle tramp as Tu's has pointed out, but this can be removed with a track bar
I can't say for certain that it will improve road handling but my experiences with leaves and my research says yes it will

Car makers used less leaves or parabolic leaf springs (single leaf that got thicker in the middle) for improved comfort and better road handling

I'm going to build a test rig so I can test leaf spring rates for my truck and I'm going to set them up with teflon packers

Give me 6months and I'll be running them

Cheers Reece

Just to add my two cents.. I was always of the oppinion that coils were more reliable (Ive seen countless broken leaf springs on trucks an ute) but this happened after hitting something large an solid on the devils staircase this weekend, no I wasnt jumping anything or airborn at the time

The springs are std patrol fronts an have probably done a few hundred thousand ks, but thats where the cheap price of the coils most of us use comes in. Mine were free

did'nt build my truck but thanks for the advise. most of it was good. however in the interest of your own credability you need to finish a project and get out too proof some of your ideas. afterall 4wds are for mud and there isnt any mud inside your computer.tho if i put some in it you would have no choice but to get work done on your truck. theory dont mean jack if it dosnt meet the mud.

oh yea leaf spring suck!!! untill you have rebuilt them several times to get them working right and then the stabilityand flex they can deliver is impessive but dam hard to get right. last leaf truck I will do.
