my 2 cents worth.

That is pretty much NZFWDA attitude. It is important that all clubs do what is right for them in the environment they operate in. bad driving practices that damage the environment must be controlled, but how that is done is different for every region , club and trip. For example, the club I belong to has a ban on using Tyre chains, and has done so for many years (because of the damage it can do to the track), however I am aware that there are other clubs that require the carrying of tire chains on every trip. I think that both of these rules are totally reasonable and the correct thing to do. The difference is that each club is in a different environment. I am also aware of a club being formed where most trucks will have a minimum tire size of 40 inch. I am happy with that because they are only intending to do rock crawling. If NZFWDA were to introduce a tire size limit it is likely to drive away the very people we should be encouraging into the organization so that we can teach them reasonable driving behaviour. There are also Unimogs with camper bodies in NZFWDA. I don’t see any problem with them driving the Godly River, which would be banned if we have a tyre size limit, and that is plain stupid. We will be encouraging each club to look at what is right for them, and what they can do to reduce the environmental impact of the sport in their area, not making nationwide rules that are unworkable, and i understand that DoC will do the same. We will not be negotiating with Mr Waters. We exist to provide services and advice to our members, not to assist non members in personal crusades.

Thanks for taking the time to make those points Tony, and valid points they are. So that's a no from you then?

This won't be practical, nor logical. A Jimny on 33s versus a Patrol on 33 are two vastly different propositions.

What would be next to limit, number of cylinders? HP? Diesel only?

Where does it stop. Horses for courses is the only way. Vehicle owners taking responsibility to work with the landowners around what is best for the track. Heck, the same track can be dramatically different depending on the weather.

You can't regulate or legislate human stupidity.

And its the problem with all volinteer organisation the older and more experainced people throw their hands up and walk away from the newer members removing the balance that attracked them to the place originally then commenting about how everything is falling apart

Yes I wld like a discussion on size, no one said there should be a limit from this side of the fence as I understand it - just a poll looking to discuss it. I feel the motive here is to have a balanced "argument" to take to those who make decisions (local gov etc) as sooner or later it will go before the powers that be. I have no probs lobbying for the 37 - 44.... age group

yes there should be discussion , as obviously it is a hot subject .
There are only really 2 main types of track in NZ , gravel road /or hardcore
Would be nice to see some easier tracks left alone by the hardcore group for the shineys /campers /beginners to use.

Yes to discussion, provided that is what would occur.
I think there should be no limit though so your yes no list headings don't really suit. I thought the 'no' list just meant discussion is a waste of time??

totally agree that there should be a mature discussion about the subject. When two groups are at total oposites debate and comprimise is the only way to get anywhere. No point chucking your head in the sand/throwing mud or you may find one day we are all limited to trailer queens..

If you think there is only one guy in NZ who wants a tyre size limit you are sadly mistaken. There is a huge section of this "clean green" country of ours that sees a truck driving around with 36 simexs and a v8 and pictures the destruction of our land.

discussion, education and comprimise is what i think is needed.

Dave.
