i'm not up on the exact model numbers etc. best thing is to have a read through the aussie patrol forum. might take you a few months as there is a ton of info for you to digest.
don't forget a lot of the aussie guys use the top td42 tuners. i have no idea if the turbo/IP guys here are up to there level or not.

Re: need more power!!! td42
with the setup you have at the moment it would really be looking for a tdo5 big 16g instead of a 18g. They are common enough second hand BUT make sure you put a rebuild kit in if you go down this path.
After that if you want earlier boost/better power I would be looking at a better flowing manifolds(intake and exhaust). there are some pretty good desgins out there. Also try and keep your snorkel length as short as possible.
Intercooler should be pretty big to. ie a Subaru top mount is way too small.
One thing though. If your looking for decent power out of your truck and want to be actually able to use it then id be looking at seriously converting to a manual box or spending $$$$$$$$$ on your auto.

Ok here ya go....tons of reading but read and absorb, the pages in this thread cover the lot. But understand that the Mitsubishi TD05's that United Fuel Injection do are not off the shelf TD05's. They are brand new turbo's but are modified for faster spooling and higher PROVEN performance.

Re: need more power!!! td42
can any one help with sourcing tdo5 18g been looking all I seem to find is brand new Chinese rip off 1s and from what iv looked at there is couple variations done a days reading on patrol forum but couldn't find model numbers for turbo don't want be buying wrong turbo again lmao
Re: need more power!!! td42
According to guy who started the thread these are Japanese td05's from Kinugawa. Looks like quite a few are running them with very good results.

Plus bear in mind what crazy said above...td05's are rebuildable, maybe find yourself a second hand one and give it some luvin. Agree with what he said re size as well, go for a 16 Large. Most stuff i've read supports the fact that the turbo's still perform well into the higher rev range BUT going smaller means they kick in earlier.

There's a lot of people telling you to do very complicated things when at 20psi to 25psi it just isn't required!
Get the right size single turbo, sort out the exhaust and seriously consider doing the inlet manifold.
With 20 psi I/C the factory auto will handle it as long as it's in good condition and you run a big trans cooler. (I know as I raced one like that)
The last one we built had a 12mm plunger, FMIC, Garrett T3 turbo (from a Safari kit), custom front entry inlet manifold, 3" exhuast and 4" snorkel.
This ran 25psi and peak EGT was 650*. It was on boost from about 1200 rpm and pulled hard right through to 4200rpm. It could've run a lot more but that would have meant a bigger turbo and we didn't want to sacrifice drivability for top end power. (Everything is a compromise)
With the auto the other issue you have is the TC stall speed is 2000 rpm so if you haven't got good levels of boost before then the engine will bog down. You need to match the turbo size (and therefore the rpm it spools) with the TC stall speed. Run a big turbo then you need to get the TC stall increased. (like a drag car would)
Also if you are running over 20psi I'd be very careful with EGT. Due to the type of motor the temp coming out of the precomp chambers is serious higher than the EGT and that's what does the damage. The factory inlet manifold is too small so you get uneven cylinder temps. Think 2 lower than EGT, 2 pretty much right and 2chigher. Getting a custom phlenum style inlet manifold (like the boy racers) solves this problem as it means the cylinders are filled equally so run the same temp.
One last thing, have you checked for leaks as maybe you're loosing air from the inlet somewhere?

Re: need more power!!! td42
To add to above you want the inlet runners either as even as possible or as short as possible.
I was going to mention sourcing a forward facing plenum chamber from a nissan skyline( or for a nissan skyline if you buy an aftermarket one) and cutting the patrol runners off as close to the head as possible and tig welding the gtr plenum to it but I don't know if the runners will line up as the TD is a longer engine.

Waiter...there is a drought in my glass.
Re: need more power!!! td42
for around 20psi probably just do a lid lift on the inlet manifold and shift the inlet to the front to match up to a front mount IC. full custom manifold would be nice but $$$$. as crash mentioned short runners are good but also want to be tapered. there is some big discussions on this topic which can be worth reading for the tech.
just be aware of some of the big brand manifolds, they are crap.

Re: need more power!!! td42
just started 4 inch snorkel and another air box haha and it is 3 inch exhaust stops under passenger seat iv got access to the gear to make front facing plenum don't want front mount I,c tho just another thing to get a stick stabbed in to haha would the plenum help lower egts and inlet temps etc the truck has top mount intercooler that iv fited atm and only ever gets higher than normal around 100k in over drive ceams to drop bit if you sit on 120 instead or just don't use over drive a re gear would help to no truck likes turning 36s with 4.11s haha
Re: need more power!!! td42
no need for forward facing plenum if you have a top mount IC. just a lid lift will do and a decent sized IC to manifold pipe.
Re: need more power!!! td42
so u think lid lift and 3 inch alloy pipeing from plenium to i,c any sizings on lift lid eg how much extra volume im wanting to add?
Re: need more power!!! td42
ton of info on the patrol forum.
by mem i think its 2" lid lift and 3" intake. however there is tons of variations including making the manifold the intercooler end tank.
