just an update for the trip.

at this stage access has been organised for the 20th january for:

Me : pretty standard hilux
a mate of mine: very standard hilux
another mate : a pretty beat up surf
Elmo : Nissan Safari
philux : toyota hilux
kiwipete : nissan terrano

at this stage we can still get more vehicles through the gate but access is restricted to 10 vehicles. if you want to come along then pm me or post your details so i can forward them on to DOC.

at this stage we will leave early saturday morning so we have planty of time for a full days playing around. some of us may stay the night up there and do some fishing etc but dependant on the weather etc.

this will be a good day trip for the family etc and if you only want to tag along and stop off at any lakes on the way then thats fine to. if anyone has any other ideas etc then let me know.

from amberly to the locked gate at loch katrine its around two hours. you can do it quickier but thats about the average. from the gate to the end of the track, anything from 40 mins plus depending on conditions.

I was up there last weekend, (new years day) someone has once again broken the padlock, which is a concern, however DOC may have replaced it by then so booking in is essential.
The heavy rains in November have damaged the tracks, so travel time is about 30 minutes longer overall each way as a result, but overall track not in bad condition. Make sure that you stick to the tracks as too many people are creating new tracks to avoid going through some of the water holes. These water holes are not too deep, (if in doubt check first before driving through) all have a good base, and by trying to avoid them just create a mess and is an issue for the local farmers.
It is a great family day out, the scenery is fantastic and those who have a fishing licence there are some big fish about (although all I seemed to attract that day were the babies! So big momma has to be there still!) and a highly recommended trip.

yep the trip is for the 20th which is next saturday. aslong as you have a 4wd with tow hooks then youll make it just fine. all the hard sections usually have an easier route around them so dont worry about that. the trip will be all day but if the weathers any good i will be possiably staying up there the night. let me know if you definatly coming and ill book you in with DOC.

cheers
