haven't been offroad since the 17 th dec , feel the need for a little offroad

as I was a tad late the others had gone on ahead.
Mark [aka xj] came back down and after a brief discussions decided to err to the side of caution and call it a day due the fact the track is well rutted and the surf did not have enough clearance to make it through

maybe its time to do a body lift???????
Hope everyone else had a great day out

I travelled the road less travelled now where the heck am I!!!

buggered if i know how to get pics from the users albums to here...... page 24 anyway, just before mudzillas and monstas.
(also adding some pics from my few days in the Hokianga over christmas)
Notes for the day:
1)Never invite Big Al to your wedding, he'll end up at the wrong church!
2)Brian, get 2inches and some tyres (two inches of lift that is!!)
3)To those who said you were coming and never bothered to show, a call, text, or message on the forum would be fairly decent to let everyone know whats going on.
4) mudzilla and monsta are animals
5) a call to matamata piako district council might be required, 'cause thats really starting to cut up even from 3 weeks ago, let alone 3 months ago.
6) Al little zuk is a real little cracker

Just a quick note on this Adventure Wayne (mudzilla) Denys 70 sieries and myself,Went into Waitawheta on Tues No real problems apart from the slip by the waterfall caused the seat cover to pucker up a bit and me having a blonde moment and nearly putting my truck over total time start to finsh 5 1/2 hrs.Wed we did Thompsons Te Aroha threw to Katikati and back once again the slip on the Te Aroha side caused the heart rate to go up a bit ,the bombing range was a double line all the way going but a single coming back,(its a real crap hole at the moment) I managed to kill my Alt and batteries get crossed up and stall all at the same time,Wayne believe it or not jump started me useing his winch,by winching me backwards(that one super fast hyd winch)Apart from us both having blocked radiators and overheating we got back to the top in 5hrs ,While wating for things to cool down it was good to meet up with Xj,Callum007 and a few others (sorry but im terrible with names)Had to pull and clean radiator on the way down and get a couple of tow starts as batteries were that dead it would not run, managed to get back to camp fit spare alt, probem solved. We will post a few Pics when Wayne gets home,Should only be a day or so ...Cheers...Steve

Well I wish I'd found these forums and this thread before I wasted the gas in going for a look at it on the 2nd! I'd heard the western side was fairly tame but I wasn't going to risk past that first bog in the non-moded Disco by meself. Hell the place was swarming with grumpy dirt bikes as well so probably lucky I didn't get through or might've collected one.
Nice pic's!

and another relates to yesterdays trip from 'biker' perspective

Tosser. I suppose 4x4's are responsible for the slips there as well? And the rocks... yup that's us too. Actually, its probably only because of 4x4's that the rock slip section is easily passable now, back in april 06 it was tight, now its a breeze, only due to continued traffic taking the edges off!!
Whatsmore, any rider ive EVER seen up there i have stopped and chatted to, none have ever appeared shitty, might just be keyboard heros spouting off to hear their own toughness..... "be warned"???? what a wanker!
Dixie, you were heading on both sides of the track on your quad regularly back then....... what say you on these postings???????

well I'm up there tomorrow with the manakau club and doing sunday the 20th as well with some more club guys
aucklanders.... hell lets get on that bikers forum... and blame it on the aucklanders!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously though for a second, If its the matamata piako district council that are supposed to maintain the track, and subsequently their ratepaters, why are they not asking for "koha" for users utilising the track?
I'd be happy to slip $10 in each time i were up there, the bikers could do the same, and then everyone (well the whinging bikers anyway) could stop bitching. We're in a world of user pays, so why not pay, it benefits us all in the end if the track is maintained. thetre might have been say 30 users up there on the weekend, theres $300.

Now that's a thought xj, but generally speaking when people start finding they need to pay for something they want it to be top notch and best 'value for money'. You might find people expect the track to be the standard of a normal gravel road if they're to pay to cross it.
And before I forget - I did just barge on in here - hi, my names gummy and it's been 20 minutes since my last drink
Currently in Hamilton and own a 93 3.5V8i Discovery which is standard because I'm piss broke to do anything with it, and a 1960 Series II restoration which also I don't know why I have it when I can't do anything with it!

Kick 'er in the guts Trev
Not necessarily about "needing" to pay for access. Call it koha. I just got off the phone with mudzilla, and he made a very valid point, "Its a privilige to be there." I'm happy to make "koha" for the "privilige" of using the track. Others dont HAVE to if they dont want to, just dont moan about it.
For the record too, I dont want a pristine sunday drive, but theres going to be times where maintenance is needed, and im happy to contribute to it if need be.
I am alway gutted when up there and see fuking beer bottles laying around, (threw a couple in the back of dixies safari last time) i even saw, yesterday where some tossers had put their camping rubbish (by the second play area/rock climb) in a shopping bag and tied it up into a tree!!!!!!! Their camp fire area hadnt been tidied up either. Whoever was up there in their landrovers (YEAH - YOU WERE SEEN!!) ought to be hanging your heads in shame!!!!
I'll jump off me soapbox now........................................
