That is a pretty cool idea, did they screw it in vertical? It wouldn't suit a winch truck time to setup would be too long and if in soft soil or sand you can always peg it back in a V to ground peg's (peg's away from the vehicle being towed).
Very cool idea, so simple.

Very cool idea, so simple.
It was screwed in at a slight angle, when the tension came on it stood up straight and diddnt budge. If it does move forward from perpendicuar, you simply let the tension off and wind it in another coupla turns.
I could not believe how easy and effective it was.
Apparently in sand it does not need any other support at all!
Im so looking forward to getting my winch mounted and being able to put the lan-cor to good use, when needed that is!
It is a nice light compact package it comes in too. Easy to store.

No worries Leithfield, I know there are several people here looking at a decent system. I have seen most ground anchors in action, plate with spikes, chain in a V with spikes and a plough type.
At a recent training day we trialed the above setups and they all failed so it will be interesting to see how this one compares in the same scenario nxt year when we have another advanced trining day. I am confident in what I have seen.
By then I will be able to put my winch through its paces.

I remember we used to carry a similar system in our navy hydrographic offroad vehicles. It had from memory 3 auger sizes, a couple of "spades" that attached to the handle which folded over when the auger was screwed in to face the vehicle and was the winch anchor point. The spades on the handle gave a little more holding power. were orange in colour and came in a large roll out bag.
This looks like the auger only part but with a solid main shaft. Nice and simple design to.

You would be referring to the old Terra Grip anchor. Apparently made by a boat or anchor company if I recall correctly. Saw one for the first time for years at a winch day at Pukerau 4WD last year.
Only down side is the hard work and effort to get them into the ground before you can winch...........then all that work again to wind them out.

Well I finally have bought myself a Lan-Cor ground anchor.
I shall be starting a new thread demonstrating it in action with my winch soon, with pics and vids, as time permits me.

It is a mystery to me why manufacturers of Plow type ground anchors manufacture them with the plow designed so that it digs out a scoop of dirt.
From a technical point of view constructing them like this----> and pulling on them concentrates all the forces into a small piece of dirt and rips it out. Constructing and anchor like this -----<spreads the forces out from the flat faces into a much larger area of the ground that the anchor is in.
I have used anchor systems like this in snow and they are definitely stronger when the anchor stake is used as per the second example due to the spreading of the forces rather than the concentration of the forces as in the first example.
