yeah i guess mid mount it is
have a fair bit of weight over the back now ... have a 120 liter fuel cell behind the cab.. and a deck with 5mm steel treadplate ... its probably about 120+ kg's by itself

all good needed a bumper for cert anyways :D

after that ill ethier straighten it up a bit so it pulls into the body ... or sell it on trademe for the 150 bucks it cost to make :d

without the winch there the front chasiss bar becomes the issue ... maybe i give it a 2" suspention lift ... but honestly .. i dont want it that high

Those pic's are deceptive.

It has a better approach angle than a safari or cruiser with a standard PTO set up, and a shit load better than most standard electric winch applications.

Mid mounted winches are all good, but for practicality on a weekend bush truck, front mount all the way :D

thats what i thought, i was just imagining where an original bumper would be sitting, only one way to find out, get out some straight edges and do the math

As a comparison this is what I have achieved by moving the axle 30mm forward and mounting the winch hard back.

richard, is your bar mounted on factory mount points? did you alter it to suit bodylift and do ya tyres rub on corners of ya bar when flexing? just asking as theres one on a truck on trademe, hes been tryna sell the truck for ages, trucks a bit buggered, im thinking of offereing him some cash for the bar and ill give him my bumper to replace it

Hey Wayne, looks nice. Move ya radiator onto the rear deck, move the winch back and down, then move ya diff forwards. Aim for an approach angle like this 8)

Your approach angle needs more work Jafa

On a serious note Wayne, Jafa is right because the better the approach angle the more capable the truck is but for ordinary people like me those approach angles are not needed even to do serious 4 wheeling.

Mine is a genuine SMITTYBILT winch bar from the USA and is made with the right mounts for a Hilux and nothing rubs.

sweet when you get up we can talk some pumps :d
im gunna usea nissan hicas pump for the moment till i have some other issues sorted out
basically 2 indipendant pumps on a comon shaft so you get douple the fluid output.. a potential 20 lpm :D
i only make mention because while i kno wthere is a plan to ru na dedicated hydro pump for the winch .. you coudl use a modded hicas pump to supply both front steer and rear steer on there own presure rails so as to not cause any drop out issues
+ its all on a single pully ,and because its a ps pump its 100% duty rated and its a off the shelf replacement :d

you got place to crash etc ? im sure we can organise something

lol my bad .. the nissan front arm cradle comming around :D ... just looked like a industrial steel wheel at first glance :D

its going to be a fantastic trip
i think im going along with ben (wopass) for this trip ... i dont think i will have my truck finished in time nor tested :( .. but in saying that i havent done a club trip yet ethier ... just had DB and Ben and even sarah putting me though the basic's on there home grown testing track .. and everytime i drive it.. i break something .. rather be out having a good time learing the basics like recovery .. winching and lines to drive, hazards to watch for rather than limp my truck home and miss the good times and education

shame you cant make it up .. would have liked to shake ya hand :D
and the advice is apreciated ... we ripped that bottom bar off the "stinger" and that made a massive differance
im not the type to put form over function :d

im hoping to ethier .... make my roll bar , hook up my winch ...or go find some mud this weekend :D
