n yeh,i actually found aswell that with my wheel / bar i get it actually shaking back and forth causing it to feel like alignment is out or something, bad shaking really,i do kno that i havent braced the front of my bar back to chasis yet and that is one of the jobs list but yeh, wheel still needs lifting more too as it hits the ground on steep angleetc so im just gona experiment a bit i think

Some thing like this to brace the rear bar to the chassis should sort the problem. (pic is upside down)
IMO you don't want the spare inside, ask Gimmemud how much of a drama it is to fit a 35 spare inside.

Draws looking good, are you going to make some bits to fill in over the wheel arches?

cheers for the replies guys, astroturf not quite what im after T-boon  ,jdub, ill definatly stop by them in the next day or 2 and get some of that sorted,n yeh thats pretty much what ill be putting in UBZ,and like ya say im also pretty sure thatll sort the problem,i dont really want the spare in the boot but just for a tempory thing itll be fine, and yeh, thinking sum sort of full length plate down either side thats hinged on,thatl give me 2 extra pockets that are usable, and yeh id believe half the boot gimmemud,i threw mine in quickly just to check things and its definatly a tight fit,and that wont get any beta if i get a set of 37 muds

well couple of weeks back a few of the boys and i had a lil road trip, had all the good moments from us almost running out of gas in the middle of no where to me clipping the gas pump barrier with the trailer wheel arch at 0330 in the morning   you could imagine how happy i was

all ended ok though with us returning with this

Image

used to belong to sam / chevrolux as some would kno him, cheers again mate

inside she stored away this lil beauty

Image

after a long day sat last week i got her out,and then after a long day sun i got her into mine

Image

things should have gone alot smoother but i was working by myself as no one turned up,the eng lifter was slightly to short, like 100mm  ,the rear diff in the lux was locked solid so neither wheel would spin and of course i have my awsum gravel driveway to do it all on

during the week i knocked up some eng mounts and after yesturdays efforts i had her running again, much to the delite of my wife as it only had manifolds on  ,unfortunatly not quite driving yet though

ive also removed all of the original eng wiring harness and removed the wiper wires which we part of that,re taped them and all back together, also started on removing all the extras which went with the old motor, got the rear drive shaft back in

gota start on my garage tomorrow as weve just picked up the permit but should have all motor related stuff sorted by the end of the week except exaust so yeh,

im now a happy owner of a chev powered surf, with ifs of course

well a lots happened in the almost 2 years since this was updated

finally got truck on the road just before xmas 2010,did a few good trips and truck went well.only issue i had with motor was the coil packed up,replaced with new unit which ended up being nothing but trouble, got new coil for original and away she went, then all ended suddenly when i went to wood hill in march 2011 and passed out which resulted in me rolling her down a bank with my at the time 2 and a half year old son in the front seat.thankfully no one was hurt apart from my truck, since then its been parked up while ive saved and worked on the brother n laws truck.that is now on hold as he's brought a house so mines back in the top spot

so,during the last 9 months i have managed to swap a good body on and have been buying parts, its getting one last build and cert then its drive only and maintenance so the final plan is 4 dr swap, ute conversion, coiled sas and upgrade to r series box, locker in the rear, all new bar work including full exo and possible full internal cage and general tidy up of engine bay

lets see how long this all takes

 well at least a main hoop for harnesses  ,also as said if externals built right which i might fail at,who knows

and yeah, was out wheeling with the boys, went to go up a hill,at the bottom turned and said to my mate are you ready, said to my son are you ready (hill wasn't huge and had been up bigger so wasn't worried about it as such,ie if i was i always get my son to hop out and stand with mates)looked forward and remember dropping the clutch and that's it,next thing i know where on our side and I'm going wtf just happened and kicking out the windscreen to get my son out and check he was ok

Image
Image
Image

guys reckon that instead of going up the hill in line with track my lhs wheel was where the rhs wheel should have been and just simply went of the side of the hill, not even the slightest attempt to correct or anything like that.went onto rhs of truck, then roof, then finished up on passenger side

its the 2nd time ive passed out while driving,1st time i drove 600m down the motor way,up the centre wall then back down and up the back end of a primer which went sideways and i came to looking a an indian lady who thought she was about to die.not even slightly funny in the least, lost my license while docs checked me out but couldn't find a thing so got my license back.its really quite a worry but i cant do anything about it and doc said it should happen again

Same thing happened to my dad, took them 9 years to find the problem. The muscles in the back of his neck are larger than normal and when his head is in the correct position, they restrict blood flow to the brain.

so garage is now completely signed off and i can now get into this project again.been in rarotonga for a week but had the last couple of days free so got stuck into it..kind of.....

motor is now back in minus fly and clutch just to get things lined up.gearbox xmember has had a slight amount cut out to let new larger r150 box sit properly (just needs a added bash plate incase i was to land on transfer case but that wont be hard to add on).dropped the ifs diff and axles out.also cut 2x ifs rear mounts out to give clearance for motor.cut off the tops of original engine mounts from chassis to allow motor to drop into new and correct position.body lift has now been dropped from 90mm to 50mm which makes me a lot happier and i got the sabre saw out 8) .also sat the new 80 series fuel tank into position and have measured up for new chassis rail brace and a rear plate for the double cab conversion.oh and got the drivers side rear door shell filled up with the internals in was missing ie glass reg seals handle and interior

bit more progress but no pics, spent some time  ,we all know how that goes, but have sorted a plan for rear chassis rail and fuel tank mounting / protection and have collected steel as well as deck rough pla.,have decided to go with leaf shackle bushes and make custom eng mounts rather than make a chassis mount to suit a standard eng mount, mainly so if i roll again motor CANT fall out.last time it didn't but i did find a torn eng mount so it was on its way.sheet steel should arrive before the weekend so closing up will begin this weekend as well and picked up fresh 4.1 lsd hi pinion diff today from main freight.just got to get hub spacers made then can set aside a weekend to rebuild front diff.it ain't a lot but getting there

well bit more and with pics.got the plasma out and ruff cut the 3mm hrms that arrived during the week, window roughly in the right spot but not to size yet.also got the new plates drill for rear rail and that zapped in as well, man my drill press was no impressed with me and the 25mm drill bit  .although the chassis has been extended its still shorter than factory length truck by approx 150mm.as per pic I've included tow eyes and snatch hooks.also put fuel tank into position and have began working on mounting rails for tank.sat night also got auto brake pedal out and manual brake and clutch pedals in.a whole lot of vacuum, fuel, heater and air con lines removed so eng bay is looking tidier.also got body mounts all tightened up,carpets back in place and front seats mounted...all little stuff sat night but has to be done at some stage so yeah.oh and cleaned all the black sticky sealant off the rear windows which will now get filled in with steel

cheers guys.tray design is sorted,i think   ,will be very similar to Oscars but just deciding on box or tube.will get tank mounted, deck fab'd,eng remounted and running so fuel tank full etc.basically truck finished along with solid front rebuilt then cut out front and set that up leaving springs and shocks the last things to buy so I'm not spending money twice.rear plate has been left strait bro due to window, fold would be in a funny place and yeah its good to see it moving forward again.only have 1 day a week to work on it though so maybe a bit slower to finish then I'd hoped for but good things take time, better things take even longer
