Urgent! Need 4.88 surf/prado rear ring-pinion ...or?

I pulled the rear diff today to give it a quick check and make sure everything was ok, thinking I would find nothing out of the ordinary, and gain some peace of mind before gwavas next weekend - but I found chips missing from the pinion!

So, with less than a week to sort something out... Does anyone have a factory toyota 4.88 rear ring and pinion from a prado or surf they are willing to part with?

Failing that, maybe a rear prado/surf diff with a 4.3 ratio would work as I have a spare front diff in a 4.3 ratio.

I've sent an email to a company in the USA, to see if they can airmail a gear set to me this week, but I doubt they'll be able to get it here that fast. And even if they did, I'd need a non factory 4.88 diff to fit the after-market 4.88 gears (thanks Calvin for that info).

If anyone has any leads on who I might ask, or any ideas for me, that would be most appreciated.

i have a 4.88 surf rear head sitting on my bench that is going in my zook

if you have no luck you can borrow it for tha weekend

i can send it up with one of the palmy fellas

providing i get it back or a replacement

Wow, that's awesome of you to offer! I'll let you know if I can't find something that'll work, and of-course I would pay you for the use of your diff if it comes to that.

Hi Mate ,just checked around people i know ,I found a rear C/wheel and pinion set out of a prado with an elect locker ,have been told these have a thicker C/wheel and wont fit yours is that right or will it fit .oh its a 4.88

I have just fitted an e locker to the front of my hilux and yes they have a thicker crown wheel so need a bit of grinding to the housing. not hard but not ideal. I am one of the organizers of tough truck and can offer you the same deal as safari pete. for a 4.8. I want it back. or replaced . I also have space's in my team If anybody wants to do tough truck but didnt manage to get in a team

Yeah I think it is the thicker gear in the e-lockers ...still could be an option, I would just need to find a non 4.88 prado/surf diff to put it in, along with the locker (they swap over). I know where I can buy a surf diff, so that could work?

As we have the Prado housing, I think the thicker gear should fit without grinding - I could be wrong, but like you say not hard to fix.

Sorry I've been radio silent on you guys for a few days...

A fellow Auckland 4wd club member had some gears sitting in his garage that he didn't have a use for, so I picked them up and got them swapped in. Then it was a mad panic to try and get the Hilux back on the road and ready for a weekend of punishment at Gwavas (had no time to give you guys an update). We made it there, and had a great weekend's 4wheeling.

Thanks so much to all who offered help in one form or another - its awesome that you would consider lending me your parts for me to trash for a weekend, so thanks again! (maybe you wouldn't have offered if you saw what punishment I would've given them!)
