Re: how to raise a Toyota surf 1989 late model
tons of info around.
depends on what sized lift you want to. small lift ie 2" use aftermarket rear springs and 1" ball joint spacers for the front. add a set of new shocks.
for cheap bigger lift fit cruiser springs.
also check out front diff drop and swaybar spacers.

80 series cruiser springs fit in back ....but unless your doing a SAS in front will be too high.
Basically with IFS the max you can easiely do is 2inches.

Re: how to raise a Toyota surf 1989 late model
where abouts are you?
you might want someone who's local.
no offense i have no idea if your a newbies or a pro, but what mods have been done to the surf?
what are you planning on doing to it?
what size tires are you running or going to fit?
and what style of offroading are you doing or looking to do?

80 series standard height will give you a 4" lift, which will probably more like 4.5 - 5" if you still have the factory saggy springs

Will be way to much for an IFS Surf.

Re: how to raise a Toyota surf 1989 late model
don't need a lift for 31's.
i would just go for a small lift. when you start getting 33" or up then start looking at bigger lift. small lift saves a lot of hassle with CV angles.

Re: how to raise a Toyota surf 1989 late model
you don't need a big lift to be capable. your going to get hung up on the diff anyway and tires will be limiting factor. as already mentioned by others there is drawbacks with big lifts. cv angles, body roll, on road driveability.
the other interesting thing is some of the big lifted vehicles have less flex than vehicles with less lift.

Re: how to raise a Toyota surf 1989 late model
listen to what others are saying, unless your surf is dragging its ass, no need for a lift for 31s.
remove the rear bumper to hugely improve the rear overhang.
lift does not make your truck more capable at all.
only the size of your tyres determines the clearance under your diffs, if the 31s fit without rubbing then it would be more capable as it is, as the factory springs will be softer and flex more

good practical advice worth listening to right there

Re: how to raise a Toyota surf 1989 late model
The back is sagging down and i would like to lift it as it looks better so instead of getting standard springs ill try get some 80 series springs

which as already stated will lift it approximately 4inches which will not only make it sit nose down (even with the torsions cranked up) but also will require certification for the lift.
If your dead set on lifting your truck you would be better to get a set of 50mm lift springs as they will not require certification.

theres a couple of options for you to start with

Re: how to raise a Toyota surf 1989 late model
also with 4" lift you will need a panhard bar bracket made up. with 2" factory one will do.
Re: how to raise a Toyota surf 1989 late model
I've decided not to put land cruiser springs in the back and wind the torsion bars up now, but i was just wanting to know why it worked in his surf which is a 1992, it sits level i thought it was the same so i could do the same to mine?

if you throw longer springs in you want to make sure your brake hoses are long enough and your shocks have got enough travel for the extra lift
Re: how to raise a Toyota surf 1989 late model
Hey the shocks in the surf are not the standard ones they were upgraded before I bought it is there any way to tell if they will have enough travel?

Re: how to raise a Toyota surf 1989 late model
for 50mm spring lift most aftermarket shocks will be fine.
brake lines will be ok. only minor thing is to make a spacer for the brake bia lever.
springs are easy enough to install yourself without spring compressors.
front torsions can be wound up or you can look at 1" ball joint spacers.
also sway bar spacer and diff drop spacers will lessen the CV angle.
