Toyota surf. No vsvs

Hi all i got a surf last week its got a 3.8 in it and it looks to have been buggered around with a fair bit. it appears to have no vsvs in it. I followed the front vac lines back to a Y joiner so both vac ports on front of diff will be recieving even vacuum.
If i disconnect both lines and connect the right hand side port (passenger side) direct to vacuum line then the front diff should engage right?
