Hi Guys, i am in the process of wiring up my new roof mounted spot lights for my fj40. Someone told me that it would be a wof failure having more than 2 spotlights? . This will obviously affect how i wire them up so any advise on this woule be greatly appreciated. Will they need to be removed for a wof?
if possible, make the roof mounted spotties attach to the bar in such a way as the bar, with spots, is removable... get a plug like connection you can have 'in cab', and attach when the grunt of the spotties is needed.. might be handy if off roadin and low branches threaten ya new requisition..
i had 4 lights mounted to a bar that was bolted to a roof rack bar so it could be taken off for trees or using the roof rack and had a plug that hooked up to a short amount of wire with a plug on the end sticking out of the roof. worked great
are there issues with roof mounted spots for certification
i know you are not supposed to have more than 3 pairs of lights on the front of your vehicle
iand i was under the impression roof mounted are an issue here for some silly reason
Thanks for the replys guys. I will wire up a plug just as it exits the roof so that i can remove the whole bar, which is not that hard as it has a roof rack attachment thingy. Jumper did you ever take your truck for a wof with the lights on the roof?
There was an existing hole in the roof so i used that and then fed the wire down the hole inside the top of the windscreen and through the heater vent to the switch keep it all looking stealth.
Yea but try to stay away from repco they are far to overpriced
The trailer connection is a good idea but go for the round ones I think they are hella part numbers #4012 and #4011 off the top of my head as the square ones don’t seal as well as the round ones.
But what you really want is hella part number #4907 and #4908 as you can flush mount the female end to your roof and then plug in the male part when you use it.
i must say from my experience the hella gear is far better than anything else I have used it just has that feeling of quality that I like (bit like my snap-on tool addiction):)
