Hi new Welly member with a 13bt question

Post by 87cruiser »

Hi all, I live in wellington and I've recently got myself an '87 lx bj74 with a 13bt and auto. Going to use it for hunting, fishing and shiny/safari trips with the local clubs. Since i got it i've done oil, air, fuel filters along with engine oil also put a 2.5 inch exhaust from the turbo, new injectors and the pumps been reconditioned as when I got it there was a miss a low revs which has gone but when stationary and idling in park or nuetral its fine but when I shift it to drive or reverse after 30 seconds it'll start idling really rough and the truck starts to shudder but as soon as apply the accelerator it runs perfectly smooth. Next on my to do list is tomorrow is transfer and diff oils then next weekend new oil and filter for the auto. If anyone could give me tips or advice of what to do or look for regarding the rough idle in drive would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

What's the idle speed when its warm? Might just need to be wound up a notch.

My idle is 800 I think when warm. Slightly higher when cold.

Matt.

when changing the Xfer oil you MUST use API GL 4 NOT 5 oil or even a mix of 4-5 as it WILL destroy the little brass thrust washers inside then the casing.. Do yourself a favour and try to do this..

Thanks Matt I'll check the speed.
Thanks Big repco have supplied me with a Penrite oil that says its a gl5 and gl4 compatable but I'll change it for a strictly gl4 oil. Cheers to both of you for your help.
