Reduction gears

i have found a local guy who thinks he can make up reduction gears for cheaper than the ozzy ones. im looking into gears for 3ltr v6 and 2.5td gen 2 (92ish thru 96ish?) models. he also made noise about them beingcheaper for bulk/group buys, so would anyone else be interested? i think they may be around the $1000 mark but i could be a bit off. once i find a transfur box to disassemble and show him he will be able to give be a better idea of price.

so, anyone else interested?

he will also be able to do them for other vehicles but i havent looked into them.

Will he be able to machine them so there is no gear noise,
Ive heard that an Aussie brand is prone to a slight whinneing noise.

Have you priced the ones from over there? What'd you come up with? I have for mine and $A1100 I think.

But I can't get hold of frank or JTop to get me some... :cry:

i'd be interested to know if he could duplicate the below links 'option 4'...

thats bout what i thought they would cost. i have heard they end up geting quite a bit more expensive after shiping and customs etc.

nibs. i didnt ask about garentees but he seems quite professional and he also does work for an engineer up here i know so id think he has some form of garuntee. ill add that to my list of things to ask him.

Possible the noise problem could be related to the fact that one of the gears that has been replaced is a smaller gear diameter and less teeth and there for more prone to whine against its counterpart.

Just guessing mind.

from someone i spoke to, these will whine due to the way they are manufactured. not nice for road trucks, but fine in an offroader. its just another noise after all... :roll:

theres a thread on one of the US forums about the Marks gears and its suposedly something to do with the cut on the gears that produces the whine
