80 series front diff
80 series front diff
has anyone heard if this diff is easy to break the crown wheel in reverse.

"Apparently" from my research on ih8mud.com, the front diffs are fine, you just don't do recoveries in reverse. Its bad practise anyway, but something to keep in mind.
The guys in the states run bigger engines and even bigger tyres with no problems, provided you don't get aggressive trying to recover someone using your front tow hooks
Its not the diff thats weak really, hell, its exactly the same diff thats fitted with the factory lekky lokker. Like NJV6 said, its inherent due to design

your 80's cruiser will be 4.1:1 ratio,i think all the prado ones are 4.3:1 ? so you will be looking for a cruiser one or parts there of. i have a cruiser high pinion in my spares pile but would cost you a stack of cash to have that...and you only really need the parts to pix yours..not the whole thing ?
If you already know everything, DON'T ask bloody questions!!
Cheers wopass i was thinking of taking out the diff head and getting a new crown wheel fitted by the diff shop. as your right i dont need the whole thing and i not going to be going out in the hard stuff to brake it again.
shane i was backing up on a rope with PR stuck down a bank (Huge Hole) to check i was clear of a tree behind me and it went click click ( no bang).
i winched PR back to all four.
Hopping to get the head out monday.
