WANTED hilux lift kit

Post by jimmyb »

Hello

I have a 1986 LN61 hilux surf and I am keen to fit it with a suspension lift kit. It has leaf springs and beam axles front and rear, just wondering if any body can point me in the direction of a cheap way of jacking it up.
Thanks very much.

maxitrac heavy duty lifted springs.. i got mine for my 86 surf (ifs)for $115 each spring but that was just for the rear.. and get some maxitrac lengthend shocks to

From repco.. where are you located?

I think you can fit rear hilux springs in the front to? but im not sure, some one from here will say if this is true or not

You have several options, depending on what you plan to use the truck for.
body lift, only really good to help clear bigger tyres or make it look taller.
extended (longer) shackles, can alter your front wheel alignment and driveshaft angles. tends to make your truck roll around on the road a bit more though
Re arc your existing springs, works well, cost effective BUT the springs can sag again
Buy new springs with a 50mm lift, usually gives you a harsher ride on road, though the maxitrac springs Supralux sells sound like they work well.
If you do lift your truck with a suspension lift it would pay to replace your shocks as well.

An LN/YN61 Surf has Independent Front Suspension
An LN/YN60 Surf has leaf springs all round

ive just lifter my 87 hilkux d-cab
got maxitrac 50mm lift springs from steve (supralux) @ 4wdstuff.co.nz and put in a 50mm body lift.
springs are great they are good on the road and even better off road. only fitted body lift to clear some bigger tyres so as was said above it depends what your plans for the hilux are.

Excellent, thanks very much for your info and ill follow up on what you have told me, it is a 1986 surf ssr ltd definitely has leaf springs all round. Full electrics which is a pain because half of it is not working any more – water does that I suppose. :D
Ill keep you posted. Cheers!

non working electrics is just a Toyota thing with this model, the rear window is a common failure, there are fixes available if you surf the net. also the switches for the power windows get filled with dust and the contacts bend, reasonably easy to open the switches and fix/clean them though.

Where in the country are you?

Hello

I had a play with the rear window, the guy I brought it off put the number plate bolts in too far and jammed the regulator! And yep I took all of the switches apart and cleaned the contacts so they are all go now, all be it a little dicky.

thanks for the offer but it already has a set of munroe shocks, if any body can help with some of those white spoke rims would be really good. I have managed to track down a 2LT engine to fit to it :P
