why bother? lots of other things you could do rather than put more pressure on the already highly strung motor... look at doing some other things to it first and maybe finish a few of those things too..

I was just seeing becuase a intercooler is supose to cool the air right. with makes it go faster to but it also will cool the engine and turbo down won't it?
(Just my newby nes talking.)
Re: Any one ever put a intercooler on a 2ltd?
an intercooler is a good idea as it will bring the EGT's down reducing stress on the motor. you only stress the motor out if you wind the fuel up to match it (not a good idea as you cannot guarantee consistent cooling). intercooling certainly helps with the head cracking issues.
its a bit of a tight fit, most do a body lift which makes it far easier to fit an intercooler in. front mount is possible but often means pipes going under the front of the surf which is exposed to damage.

I have a intercooler for a sr20det that im not using,
It's a top mount Tho..

Re: Any one ever put a intercooler on a 2ltd?
Definitely your best idea yet.. cooling every thing down will lower the stress levels..most that have done this conversion have used a Subaroo top mount inter cooler with great success with the biggest problem closing the hood. There is no reason why a Nissan inter cooler wouldn't work except for the hose sizes.
Re: Any one ever put a intercooler on a 2ltd?
Ill Bring the intercooler home to morrow and see How much diffrence the hoes sizes are then!,
WHo gives about a bonnet. do you really really need one??
IF i do ill just have to make a hood scoop then.

Only if you still want a WOF or you like water and muck spraying on to the windscreen when you drive into mud .Its not a bad place to rest your beer or lunch or lean against but if you like playing catch ... go hard Hoods also keep fingers attached to the rightful ownersWHo gives about a bonnet. do you really really need one??

What do you meen by this,
WIll proberly attempt to make a scoop about of perspex shite.

I mean by this ... a inter cooler can only cool air down to an ambient temp ( that's the temp entering the cooler) unless you can cool the inter cooler down. One easier way is to spray water onto the cooler thus cooling the cooler therefore making the air denser making the engine more efficient. Easily made with a water bottle or reservoir , falcon work well, a windscreen washer motor and garden irrigation spray nozzles .

Re: Any one ever put a intercooler on a 2ltd?
have a look at some of the older gt or rs legacy intercoolers, they use air and water for cooling which would be a lot better. Intercoolers are pretty useless when you not moving fast but your giving it lots of jandle (eg, truck stuck in mud, or car doing a skid) because they get no air flow. For an off road system i would be trying to use an air to water rather that air to air. They are far less likley to fill with mud also.
Its the same reason they put massive fans in front of cars when on the dyno of they get hot blow turbo's engines etc..
You should pick one up for 20 or 30 dollars as well, a bit more work with plumbing getting water to them etc but I'd say well worth it.
If your just thinking about heavy towing on open road or driving around with your foot on the boards then and air to air would be sweet.

Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level then beat you with experiance!

For that reason, you'll be wanting a fan on any intercooler. If it's a front mount close to the main radiator, it'll benefit from the engine fan pulling air through.
Remember an air/water setup still requires a radiator to lose the heat, the heater out of a cabin radiator works well, air conditioning condensors can work well too.
The best part of the old subaru air/water setup is the 12v water pump. A wrecker took $120 off me for one of those.
