suitable boost 2.4 turbo efi

Post by muddyplumber »

hi i have a 92 prado with the 2.4 turbo efi motor in it, am pritty happy with the motor at this stage but its always the case you want that little bit more power.im thinking of adding a boost controller and uping the boost slightly, if anyone has done this already what is a safe psi to run. read an article of a guy running 14psi surely this cant be that good for a diesel motor.any help would be great.thanks rich :D

I know of a guy in chch who is running 22psi in his. Did sum major mods to exhaust to ease bend in pipe up by turb. (That 90deg bend is the major prob for those motors cracking heads.) I think he also has put a 3l ? crank in the motor to stroke it slightly. He is using a turb of a 1hd cruiser too. It seems to be holding up ok so far as i know.
Unless U have done sumthing to exhaust I wouldn't try to run too high boost otherwise u mite be looking to repower much sooner.

i think 10-12 psi is fairly safe.

however i would be doing all the other mods FIRST. they are a bit of a crappy turbo so they do tend to heat the air up a fair bit at high boost and the heads are prone to cracking etc.

first mod is block EGR, disable EGR butterfly. then catch can and big bore exhaust (pointless shoving more air/fuel into it and choking it on the increased exhaust).
then you can fit the controller and up the boost.
