2-LT power loss

Post by shroom »

Hey all,

new to the forums here...

I got an LN-61 with a 2LT, recently i failed my last wof as the diesel pump was leaking fuel from the idle control thing..(the wax thing with two water lines)
I called diesel n turbo in Seaview (wellington) and they sold me a small plate and new oring, which replaced the whole idle adjusting part.
So i removed it, and put the plate on, voila, no more diesel leak.
However, now it seems I have lost a fair amount of power.
Is there anything that might need readjusting after removing the temporature idle control device? I saw it had a shaft inside it, is it possible i have left part of it inside the fuel pump? I could not find anything else..
there was a spring, a nut, two pieces of metal on the outside of the spring, the housing, and a shaft inside the housing.
The shaft inside the housing looks like it controls something inside the pump, which is what I am thinking might be the problem.
My workshop manual doesnt really go into any detail on the idle control device.

Thanks in advance for any help.

afaik it basicly just ups the fuel when its cold. possibly alters injection timing as well.
however often the wax element fails/jams. power loss when removed? check timing and also max fuel setting.
is the half throttle power still about the same ?

I swapped two hoses around, and it appears i have the power back?
the vacuem hose which runs over to/from the alternator to the fuel pump (connects to a round flattish thing) and the pipe from the back of the intake manifold etc.
Seems to have restored power, though I couldnt see what one of the hoses would do other than measure boost perhaps? (connects to the sensors on the aircan)

the hose to the round thingy on the pump should come from the inlet manifold, usualy tee'd to boost sensor or boost switch (depending on year etc).
