Oil pressure on 1kz-te
Just wondering where the pressure gauge would normally sit at idle when the vehicle is warm? and how high it should go under load? Im just worried that my new engine is a tad low on pressure.

Just to hijack this.
Does anyone know if the oil pressure gauges on the early 90's Prados with the 1KZ-TE engines have damped/false readings like the temp gauges do?
Also
What does the oil light tell you? Is this a low level alarm?
Sometimes on level going and often on steepish downhill-going, my oil light comes on. When I look at the oil pressure gauge the needle is still where it should be, in the middle third. Checking the oil level on the dipstick it is still near the top mark.
Perhaps I need to get two aftermarket gauges; water temp and oil pressure.

Yes they do.
When you fit a mechanical aftermarket gauge you will soon see what i mean. The gauge should move in a similar way to the tachometer, as the rev's increase so does the oil pressure corrospondingly.

Yes it does. It only happens occasionally though.

Truck is now due for another oil & filter change and with the truck stopped overnite the oil is now right at the top mark. And yes it still occasionally does the oil light thing!

My brothers Prado does/did the same thing.
We put a manual pressure gauge in and dissconnected the light at the sender.
Problem solved.
His would do it while idleing, on steep decents and randomly cruising down the road. Was a bit worrying untill we realised it wasn't a pressure light but a level warning light.
I imagine the sender/sensor is very gummed up and a replacement would fix the problem, but whats the point?? You always check the oil before a long trip and weekly around town so its not neccessary in my veiw.

We used a "T' piece into the block were the origional pressure sender unit goes, which is near the oil filter, and then plumbed both the origional gauge and the new one into the "T" piece.
The gauge, well you choose, his Prado has the rounded dash so we just used the baking plate the gauge came with and screwed it to the steel section of the dash and wired the light for the gauge into the light circut on the cig lighter.
