Bump Stops?
Hi all, I am building my new truck (BJ73) and have noticed that my old truck hase had the bump stops removed, I would presume to increase articulation and was wondering about doing the same on my new one, have any of you done so and is it a good Idea or am I likely to break something if I do? also any one running a 70 series without the front sway bar? do they handle like a sack of sh!t with out it ?

If you follow me in the bush you must be mad cause I'm plain CRAZY !!!

Re: Bump Stops?
I have left the bump stops on, never really thought of taking them off, I have seen them cut down in the past though. After reading your question, I think it is better to have something there to protect the chassis, and a bit of rubber is a good idea.
To help with flex, I have fitted Superior Engineering drop shackles to the rear, you will need longer shocks though.
I have removed the sway bar from my 'cruiser, it still handles ok, but I do have 45mm 9 way adjustable Toughdog shocks. I can get the part numbers I am using if you are interested. They are a very heavy duty shock, I guess a 45mm bore sorta indicates that
. They are far better than the shocks it came with, Munroe I think they were, any way, they were well under damped compared to the Tough Dog's. I have never had a "pogo" effect with the TD shocks, but the other ones, well, it was like driving an elastic band, and got bounced all over the show on the smallest of corrogations off road, let alone serious big bumps, which the truck would literally jump, not a pleasant sensation I can tell ya.
I dunno about other brands out there, maybe someone else will be able to tell you more about EFS and OME.
If ya want some photo's of my shocks/intstallation, I am only too happy to help ya. The list of my mods are below, if there is anything ya wanna know more about, PM me, and I will fill you in.
Hope this helps, Shane

Re: Bump Stops?
I think what I may do is strop my diff on one side and pull up to stops and see if I can cut some off or add a block to stop tyres hitting inner gaurd?

Re: Bump Stops?
Just thought, the bump stops may be there so the shock is not used as a bump stop, as in you don't want to put undue compression on the shock, better let the bump stop handle it.

Re: Bump Stops?
too true, how much modification did you have to do to the rear to fit the drop shackles? is your truck a turbo? and does the snorkle roar? mine almost sounds like I have an exaust leak due i think to it being so close to my ear when driving. want to know if it will do the same on my new truck cause if so I will make one for the passengers side instead

Re: Bump Stops?
Shackles bolted stright on, no mods needed, apart from longer shocks of course. Don't make/fit new front ones until you have doen the rear drop shackles, as you will want to keep truck level, or as close as you can.
Nope, not a turbo, hope to do a 13BT/14BT/15BT swap one day. Yup, snorkel does roar, kinda, sounds good to me.
