majic red button

Post by shortylux »

Hey Guys.

In a 96 3l turbo diesel auto prado (jap import) what is the little red button on the left near auto shifter? My mate has one and it just has jap writting on it. I wish it were a locker but im sure its not.

Cheers for your time.

Not the wee button that won't let you put it into gear if any of the fuses go?

Edit:People post fast around ere. It lets you know when fuses are blown to in my truck and then you have to lift it to pull it into gear ;) Being able to put it in gear when the key isn't in is just a bonus I think.

All the power button does is shift the auto further up or down in the rev range.
The "2" button is way cool. It allows you to start off in 2nd gear. When driving an auto in low range you don't normally have a choice, it will always start in first and shift to 2nd. This is okay most of the time, but sometimes you find they rev like hell before upshifting to 2nd, this button saves all that.

Ctr diff lock means squat shit. The 90 series is full time 4wd, all ctr diff lock does is turn it into a proper 4wd with non distributable power to front and rear diff heads. Ie 50% of the power goes to the front wheels (where at least one wheel will always turn, unless you have cross axle diff locks) and the other 50% goes to the rear (same as front, one wheel will always turn)
Oh and the ctr diff lock is usually automatic when you shift the transfer case lever (look at the numbers) When the numbers change to 4Hl and 4Ll the second l stands for locked, as in Ctr Diff locked

I've found it seems to be pretty good in the power department  it will even drag boy racers off at lights quite nicely oops I mean apparantly it will  , no idea on the economy yet as its the first auto I've had for ages and still getting used to it.

When you get over the "Even though I am in a 4wd drive, I can still kick your arse" syndrome, (and it does take a while   ), you will find for old technology, these rigs are not too bad on fuel. I get 650 -730ks per full tank of diesel.
