91 pajero alternator

Post by pajeroboy »

hey all,i finaly got my diff all sorted, now i have another prob.

my alternator isn't charging any more, just what i need at this tme of year,
i've removed the alternator from the engine,i can't take it apart cos i was going to replace the internal bits with new ones because i figur that it just full of crap and worn down, since i cant open it up i thought of getting a second hand one ad now i cant find one anywhere thats the rite one, lots of 50 amp or 90 amp one but no 65 amp which mine is,can anyone help with this,im looking for a 12 v 65 amp from a 4d56 turbo diesel engine 2.5 l.

any help would be good dont really want to pay someone to recon mine but if i have to then i will.

Why not go with the 90 amp version ?
Wont hurt anything, and will give you a bit more capacity running winches and lights etc.

Are you certain you can't pull it apart? I'd check the brushes first - most likely the nuts that hold the wires on cover the block with the brushes in it. keep undoing nuts till only the threaded rods poke thru then pull the whole rectangular pad off the rods... brushes should be behind... if they are really short then they will need replacing... not a huge expensive job - brushes are normally about $8 per pack and they probably just need soldering in - something I can do for a 6-pack of speights :)

If its something else, like windings or a regulator then get an auto sparky to do it... the whole body possibly needs to be pulled apart, and while I would do it to mine, I'm not an auto sparky and so I wouldn't risk it with someone elses...

This is assuming its not some wierd mitsi one that is a sealed unit, but I doubt it... have a look, you might be surprised.
