Stop your "open door" chime!

Post by Lincoln »

Amongst all the small jobs I've done to the '93 Hilux I bought last week, I got rid of the annoying beep that tells you the key's in the ignition and the door's open.

Getting rid of this was the easiest job yet so if the door chime's bugging you, give this a go:

All you need to do is unscrew the screw-cover on the panel to the right of your accelerator pedal. Pull that panel off (it might help to unscrew the guard running along the carpet edge as well) and then pull out the dirty yellow sponge (this might be specific to my truck!) and you should see a red wire connected to a black wire by a clear plastic connection. Pull apart this connection and you're done.

The door chime has now gone but the other chimes are all still operational ... apart from the chime that tells you you've left your lights on when you open the door so keep an eye on that!

Most people on here are likely to know all of the above but this may help the beginners out there.

Catch ya.

Sweet. Yeah I originally tried to find where it lead to but gave up and disconnected it at the source!

Additional: er actually this stops the interior lights coming on when you open the door too ... oops. I think I can live with that though.
