Window winder - 70 Cruiser

Post by fweddy »

My driver's side window winder does it job all the way to the top and then slips some cogs. It used to get right up then jiggle down, now it doesn't get right up and still jiggles down some more. Obviously seems I am loosing a tooth or two some where in there. I pulled the door cover off and had a gawk in there, and can see the mechanism but thought I'd ask any of you inside door experts what part will be giving out and the best way to deal with it/get the whole schmozzle out, or if indeed that is necessary.
Sold my 1985, BJ74 MWB Landcruiser, rear locker, 33" MTs, snorkel, PTO winch, solid bars all round, spotties, AM CB etc.
Now just a 1994, 1kz Surf, pretty standard.

All fixed! :)

Found out the usual inexperienced way how to get it out - keep undoing things and pulling till it all comes out, then when it's out realize that half what you did was not necessary and next time it should be lots easier!

It was only one tooth worn down and another was just enough to let it slip. I decided I would keep it out and see if I could find a replacement but then thought I'd have nothing to loose to try repair the teeth on it (did it once with a silly little plastic cog on an inkjet printer using plastic from an ice cream container and it lasted years) So with that vast realm of irrelevant experience backing me up I took the item to the shed and after a bit of welding, hacksawing and grinding, a bit of frustration and testing it works a treat! Put it all back in place... Not sure how long it will last...
