Cruiser steering box

hey does anyone know if my steering box on 1986 swb cruiser has an adjuster to take the slack our of the steering Like the surfs, I had a quick look and couldnt see anything.
any help would be great , cheers

yes they do and is allmost identical. on the top of the box there is a screw with lock nut,loosen lock nut and wind screw in slightly till play is gone then back off about 1/16th of a turn so as not to affect the self centring .

its probably under a build up of gunge so have a better look :wink:

I havnt actually seen the Surf ones Just read about it in a post, ok so now i gotta find it, theres a part on the top with 4 bolts and one in the middle is it The one in the middle doesnt look to have a locknut though, or do you know if its on the top/side/bottom? Ill have to look tomorow, Now i know one is there im sure ill find it .. thanks for help

the one on the top in the middle, 19mm (from memory) lock nut with a blade screw driver turn the centre screw clockwise bit by bit feeling the play in the steering box each bit by bit you screw it in untill you have taken the slop out then back it off a touch and do the lock nut up again. take it for a drive to make sure it still self centres. job done

also check your tie rod ends as if they are poked you will get sloppy steering as well.

drive it round to 2s place and ask him to show ya where the adjuster is
80 Series on 35" creepies, manual with twin factory lockers.
