Hilux manual convertion 3.8v6

Hey guys.
Decided to convert my hilux to manual and need some advice from anyone in the know please.
I have a 87 hilux double cab running a vr commodore engine and early vn auto at the mo.
I want to keep costs down but have a strong package. Planing at this stage to run a 92/93ish 2.8 hilux 5speed gearbox (open to sugestions) but thats about as far as ive looked into it so far.
What i want to no is my options on what flywheel clutch and starter to use.
Also need to make gearbox bolt up to engine no need options on that to.
Marks 4wd adaptors do a bell housing but is there anything else i can do like a mounting plate or can a holden bell housing be adapted to the toyota box?

Any advice would be great

I wouldn't stuff around with a hilux box . They are too light ,go for a surf 130 with the bigger gears. Also get a heavy flywheel as well . The hilux clutches are also too light and just spin so I have used an after market one with double the pressure.

Thanks, when you say surf 130, do you mean ln130 or kzn130? does engine matter?
As for flywheel i thought of running a hilux flywheel and having it redrilled if posable but dont no how id get a starter motor to work with it. What are you running?

Thanks, when you say surf 130, do you mean ln130 or kzn130? does engine matter?
As for flywheel i thought of running a hilux flywheel and having it redrilled if posable but dont no how id get a starter motor to work with it. What are you running?

If you need a LN130 gearbox i have three that im wreaking

they are the R series gearbox, and are stronger than the W series 5 speeds found on ln 60 luxes. If you do the conversion, best you get your hands on a box first so you can order all the right bits.
What were you blowing in the autos? The th700r (which is the auto you had I am guessing) is normally strong enough to handle what a V6 can throw at it. Are you sure it isn't an alignment issue?

Cool how much you want for one?, only prob would be getting it to chch - any idea of a shipping cost.

Hey mate, not to sure whats gone wrong this time but i just want it reliable so figured having a manual mite be a bit safer.
First auto was from a vr and somehow got water in the electrics and that was the end of it so changed to a vn hydralic trans and had shafts lathed up to fit transfer and had new clutchs etc fitted. It had done 10,000kms since then and about 3hours out of town in weekend on main road droped into 2nd around a corner and wouldnt change up or down from there, tightened the kinkdown fully and managed to get 3rd if wind it out and have to keep it above 65 otherwise drops to 2nd again but cant get 1st or 2nd. I dont no much about autos and it could be a simple fix but as i said i just want it reliable and i enjoy driving manual.

Pulled the auto out yesterday, lots of coper and steel fileings and peices sitting in sump, havnt striped it down yet to see what went wrong.

ordered manual convertion kit from aussie it arived today
Just about have everything i need so will start peicing it together.

Decided to go with the ln130 gearbox (after some recomendations thanks guys) and unlike my ln65 they run the 4wd push button rather than just selecting it with the gear stick.
Im guessing somehow ill have to run it to a switch on the dashboard throught a relay or something. anyone done this?

the only problem with the chain driven transfer case like the one you are going to put in is they are much weaker than the cog driven ones like you are pulling out , what are you doing with the old tranfer as need another coupple for my new project , did you get a new fly wheel and bell houseing from marks , what clutch are you going to run

Yea i guesed that but aparantly you can get an adaptor to run the gear driven ones so ill hold onto mine for now and see how it goes.
Got my kit from delow in aussie. kit came with bell housing, brand new flywheel, thrust bearing and presure plate, got toyota clutch plate, new slave and master cylinders. just got to make up hydralic lines.
