Landcruiser 70 Wheel bearing replace

hey , My wheel bearing is letting out Grease and oil onto the driveway leaking from inside the drum,
i talked to a mechanic about it , I had the drums of a few weeks ago cleaning and adjusting rear brakes, Now after a trip up north its leaking really bad, It also has play it , in and out descriced by the machanic as end-float or N float.
So this week im short on money as also replacing starter motor so i would like to try replace myself.
Ive ordered a new wheel bearing kit.
any advice on replacing it.. ill need to use a small punch and a hammer to gently hammer in the bearing is that right?
or do bearings need to be pressed in/out ?
do they need adjusting or do they sit in place?
will i need to grease the bearing or is it likely pre greased?
and do you think this is something I can get stuck into and work it out and replace myself , Or is it a bit tricky and should leave it to an expert if i dont have much knowlege?

but ring him first coz he may be a bit busy building a trials truck over the next week

They are pretty straight forward to replace. The hub and bearing are packed with grease so if you've got oil coming out it'll be diff oil coming out of the axle housing and into the hub, in the end of the axle housing there is an oil seal to stop the oil getting into the hub and it sounds like yours is farked so you better go and order yourself an axle oil seal as well.

When you replace the wheel bearings there are slots in the locating collars on the inside of the hub so you can knock the outer cones out with a drift and hammer.

Make sure the wheel bearings are tight or the stress gets taken up on the flange on the end of the full floating axles and you'll end up shearing the flanges off like mine did in the middle of a rather deep river crossing and you'll have to winch yourself out

Got to be the rear coz 70 series came out with front discs

I'm about to do the same thing as I've got a grumble back there - also had the same issue re leaking hub, also after being in there adjusting brakes. I haven't even looked at it yet but its the same bearing kit as the front and I've done the front and its all pretty straight forward - esp if you have done anything with bearings before. Do be careful where you hit - don't touch any running surfaces - follow your nose and make sure you adjust them up right after.

BTW does any one have one of those two screws that lock the ring thing with holes in it that keeps the hub on - I had to damage one to get it out - would really appreciate another...

good point i will order a new axle oils seal, when i spoke to mechanic on phone a few days ago he said sounds like the bearing is stuffed and seal and the diff oil is now lubricating the bearing and bearing is loosing its grease in with the diff oil , and this is why leaking grease and oil, Its leaking sludge not just oil... I HOPE my diff isnt running on sludge haha A good time for me to check diff oil condition and change if nessessary anyway i guess.. thanks for help

the full floater on the rear of my rally truck had a habit of letting water in and eating bearings, first you know is when you get a good rumble, i stainless sleeved the housing, ran a better quality seal, drilled and tapped the side of the hub for a 1/8" bsp plug, and now i run oil in the bearings, if the seal lets go i can see the oil coming out, my theory being if oil can get out water can get in, last set of bearing is a coming up 4 years, and have had a leak once.

Cheers for the good info, Reece kindly helped and tought me how to replace the bearing,
so trucks ready to go again now.
Repco have some serious problems with 70 series parts listings..
got the right bearing eventually
