electric hubs help

Hi I have a 91 cruiser 73 series mwb.It has electric hubs which are starting to be a small problem which I hope some one can help me with.I push the locking hubs button and can feel the front drive shaft lock, no poblem there.then push the h4 button,try to drive in 4wd but nothing at first then after a few minutes of pushing the button a couple of times it works fine.Question is there a delay betweeen the two buttons, is the start of problems? Selecting L4 doesnot lock the front hubs.Truck has to be stopped before i push buttons ,cannot be moving like newer 4wd. Does the locking hubs button only lock front diff but not front hubs ? Any help would be shit hot .Cheers

3 options...

strip em and clean them (or find another set)
PM Oldblue (he does a manual conversion on them)
do a conversion to manual hubs

Thanks for the reply,should the locking hubs button lock the front hubs and not rely on pushing h4 button.Cheers

seperate items, one button is the electric vacuum switch on the transfer case (some 70's are manual), the electric hubs are seperate, by all accounts these are strong but unreliable when they go, I had electric hubs on my previous LJ71 and they were the first mod done to it.

Just a couple of items,
1 You can not get L4 or diff lock without Hub button in.
2 L4 should override Hub lock and automatily engauge Hubs [ relay ]
3 If hubs are engauged then you can engauge H2 while on the run but cannot enguage hubs when speed is over 5kph? you will see a hub lock green warning light flashing.
4 There is no delay between hub lock button and H2
5 Carbons in the hubs start to become a problem after 100.000kms
6 Don't use a mineral grease in the electric hubs , use electrical grease only.
7 check front wheel bearing , to much play can cause brush's to intermitanly break there contact
99% of problems are carbon brush related

Hi old blue thanks for your reply,just had a play jacked front wheel up started car,moved transfer case to L4 without hub button pushed in no 4wd. Pushed hub button in ,spin wheel after a while it does engage but hit and miss same with H4.The brushs you talk about is it a mechanic job or auto eletrician, Cheers.

Its an Oldblue job, I remove the brush's and electric motor and fit a manual operated dummy motor which you engauge buy useing an allen key. Simple and strong , E-Mail me before someone tells me off for advertizing or check out Trade Me
